my dog molly died of cancer so it was not an issue of responsibility. we all loved her very much. they might not be open to a new dog. sometimes i think they plain don't trust me. how do get them to trust me to take care of the dog?? examples please.

Since you already had a dog and you obviously did not demonstrate responsibility with it, they have no reason to believe you now.
Give it up and grow up. When you have your own place you can get a dog.

the best way to convince your parents is to show them you are responsible. find out why they think you are not and do what they ask. a pet is a long term commitment and involves lots of time and money. you need to be prepared to housebreak, train, feed water and exercise your dog. this means getting up several times a night when the pup is young to let the pup potty. getting up early to walk the pup and also again when you get home, and then again after your homework is done and before bed. food and vet care is expensive, so do your share around the house. go the the library and research all you can on proper dog care. and hopefully once you do this for what will seem like forever your parents will let you get a dog. you should get one from a shelter or rescue, this way they will already be spayed or neutered, and checked out by a vet. and i am very sorry for the loss of your dog. also keep in mind your parents miss your dog too and maybe just aren't ready for another one just yet. be patient and show them how responsible you are. best of luck to you.

If I were you I would go for the butter-them-up plan. Work your behind off, making sure they know how hard you are trying, and tell them you are showing them how responsible you are. If you can't clean the house and make a difference then you might BE irresponsible. Work for it Girl! A dog is a friend for (their) life! It's worth it! Do something your parents need or want done around there! Put some elbow grease out there and prove you can do it!

You didn't mention why your dalmation died.... were you irresponsible? What her passing due to neglect or poor living conditions? If your parents are reluctant to get another dog, maybe they have grounds for saying no.
If everything was ok.... then when they are ready for another dog, you'll get one.Take a break... scan around on local interent sites...you local pound or SPCA. When you find a special friend, you'll know when the time is right.

You need to start acting with some maturity and show your parents you can look after a dog.
Start helping around the home, don't wait to be asked just do it.
Research dog training prior to asking for another dog and show your parents that you will take care of the training aspect.

Show them you are responsible. I got dogs dumped on me and I got my parent's trust by buying dog food and paying for vet bills. Maybe get a rat or something. Did you take good care of your last dog? This may have shaped their opinion

like everyone said, show your parents you are responsible by maybe researching and making yourself knowledgeable about pet care. To stretch it a little further volunteer at a shelter. And keep on begging.

Come home with a puppy one day and then when they try to get rid of it get real emotional. Then tell them how much you miss the other dog, and get emotional again. They probably will let you keep the new pup.
