So I guess that would mean your male cat was never neutered? Great! Now we have kittens that need homes, and other ones that will be "put to sleep" because they could not find new homes.
Call your local shelter for help with those fees.
They would much rather help pay for spay/neutering than put your "mistakes" to sleep, and throw them in the incinerator pile.
Let's all visualize that together...........:-(
Amazing to me that people still just don't GET IT.
Spay and neuter those pets, people..........duh!

I understand that its frustrating to see people having oopsie litters of animals. But please remember that when you get hostile with people and point fingers that you lose the ear of the person you are trying to reach.
With that being said here is the answer to your question.
The babies can be weaned between 5 and 6 weeks completely and you can have her spayed after that. If possible try and get your male into the vet ASAP as she will go back into heat before the kittens are fully weaned and may end up pregnant again. If you are unable to get him in before that do keep them completely seperated until they can both go in to get fixed.
Some agencies will do low cost even free speuters for litters of animals and shots. Call around to some of your local agencies so that you can get these new little bundles of joys fixed before you rehome them. If it costs you 25 per kitten to speuter/shot then ask for a 25 dollar adoption fee and include that you have already done shots and speuter.
Good Luck hon and I hope everything works out well in the end for you and the kittens.
Btw..Please do not give away the kittens for free. Many people will take free animals and use them as bait for dog fighting, food for snakes, sacraficing, or they will sell them to labs to use in expirements.

Normally, yes...it would be easier to get the male fixed if only one can be afforded. But, at age 13 the risks associated with the use anesthesia during surgery are greatly increased. There are probably low cost spay-n-neuter programs in your area. Talk to someone at one of these or at a vet's office and see what they think. I suspect they will opt to spay the female. But the low cost programs are a BIG money saver. If you can't find one yourself, you might try calling the local SPCA or Humane Society.

First off ..Keep her away from your male cat..In just a few weeks she will go into heat again!!
I know this because we had a female cat just a few months ago..We still have her babies but had to find a new home for her.She was getting kinda krazy. She had gone into heat about 3 weeks after giving birth and starting getting VERY aggressive with us and her babies!
She was a stray and we put her in the house.I think she wanted out sooo bad that it made her krazy!!
I dont think you will be able to get her spayed until after she is finished breast feeding the kittens.
Something about the incision area being too close to her teets and it wouldn't heal properly!
You can find low cost spay and neuter clinics just about anywhere.I found a place to get my lil girl done for $45.00
I dont know where you are.Just type it into your browser..Lowcost spay/ohio...Insert your city name after the slash..Or.....
Call your local shelter and ask about their cost. There may be a waiting list for females.I know where i am there is a long waiting list for females, since i am in a bigger city!
Private vets will cost alot more...If you have a myspace account go to catlovers site. They have a whole list of lowcost places to checkout.I just cant think of them off the top of my head!
Good luck to you...And congrats on the new kitties!!

Wait until she stops breastfeeding the kittens (1,5-2 months). Inform the vet when she gave birth, and follow his instructions. Also, it is easier, cheaper and less painful as a surgery to neuter the male, why don't you do that? As long as the female has no contact with other males.

I dont know where you live, but for a low cost spay for a kittie look into the local animal shelters sometime they offer discounts for spaying and neutering to the general public. I know here in nevada it is the ASPCA

I heard that they are spaying cats as young as 6 weeks now, so I guess you can have it done whenever you are ready. There are also agencies that help with the cost. Try Friends of Animals, also check with your local animal shelter.

you have to be aware that when a female cat goes through labor she goes back into heat in three days, it cost more money to spay a female cat when she is in heat which she is now in all the time, you only have to pay about $80.00 with a $15.00 extra fee since it is in heat.
