They want you to get there, and stay, they don't care if you leave the parking lot.

Because you can get a ride from somebody else that wasn't the original driver of the car or owner of the car... or leave the car that you arrived in if you were the driver in the parking lot and totally vacate the premisis.. and pick your car up the next morning perhaps...

I also agree with not everybody goes to the bar to get drunk...

But I will say for sure.. if you do get drunk in any way shape or form.. and you want to go out to your car and sleep on it.. bad idea.. leave keys with bartender or friends.. don't have them anywhere near ya when cops come showing up. If you're legally drunk and in your car sleeping and have possession of your keys.. you CAN and most likely WILL be charged with the DWI/DUI...

It is possible to have a drink without exceeding the legal alcohol level. Bars are supposed to stop serving someone when they think that person is becoming intoxicated. If someone responsible is planning to get drunk at a bar, they will bring a designated driver...the designated driver has to park somewhere.

because not all people who go to bars get so drunk and can still drive when they are under the limit. the parking lot can also be for people or drivers waiting to collect the men or women

Maybe for the same reason 7-11's have locks on their doors when they are open 24-7..
Or why we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway...

Designated drivers.....come on, you don't have to be that clever to solve that one do you? Besides public places that exceed a certain number of posible ocupance in the establishment are requiered by law to have a parking area.

Because sometimes you get to drunk to walk a couple of blocks to your car so you can drive home drunk.....hehe
