Your best bet is to visit as many martial arts schools as possible, try them out and choose the one that you are most comfortable with.

If any one of them won't let you try a lesson, then, then cross it off you list. Ask yourself 'what are they hiding?'

Find a school that offers a discipline of Kung Fu where you live (check your local phone book or interenet search engine for websites) and take the classes.

if there's several types of Kung Fu schools (it depends on what discipline you want to study, because Kung Fu is the collective name for the different disciplines that make up Kung Fu).

Then you'll want to pick at least two or three schools that interest you the most and watch some of their classes and then take some trial classes to figure out which one will fit you as an individual the best.

Visit some kung fu schools and watch how they teach, ask the instructors some questions about the style itself, how competent they are and how long they have been learning themselves. This actually applies to any martial art school. Unfortunately, ads in the yellow pages don't correlate to how good a school is, just how profitable they might be.

Do the same I've been doing: go to several Martial Arts schools and see what they teach. Also, be careful so you won't spend your money on some phony dojo or some place where you'll get seriously hurt.

I'm still looking for a place to learn Kung Fu.

First off, if you have no prior experience in martial arts, then it is easy to be taken for your money by someone who isn't really teaching you properly.

"kung fu" as you refer to it is referred to as CMA or chinese martial arts.

The main problem with chinese martail arts (except San Da or San Shou) is that most schools do not teach proplerly. There is a high probability that any school you stumble upon will be this kind of bogus school.

They do not teach with resistance and have not pressure tested thier techniques against a fully resisting opponent. This holds true for teachers as well. So they learn and don't know if they really know how to do or they don't understand a technique, and then they try to pass on that knowledge which may or may not work, to you.

A school needs to train with resistance. Of course you aren't going to be thrown to the wolves on day 1, but anything you learn should be done with resistance after you get it and eventually you need to know you can do it against a fully resisting opponent.

If a teacher tells you that thier stuff is "too deadly" to spar so we can't then that is bogus. There are of course some things you don't want to do in a sparring situation that are dangerous, but that shouldn't preclude any kind of resistance training or some level of realistic sparring.

Kung fu literally means "skill" in Chinese. It is not a form of martial arts like taekwondo or karate. In other words, kung fu just means martial arts. What type of martial art do you want to learn? By using a Chinese name for "martial art", I take it that you want to learn a Chinese martial art. There are many different types. Just like the Japanese have karate and judo, the Chinese have Wing Chun, Tanglang quan, Taijiquan and so on. You could search for some Chinese martial arts schools to teach you the type of martial art you want.

dont, unless u learn in asia, you wont get any respect from other more traditional fighters. kung fu is too flashy to be a powerful style. if u just want to train to get in shape it can be fun. but if you want to learn self defense and how to win in a fight, stay far far away from kung fu

Look up a local dojo. If you don't know which one to choose, ask around, see if nayone local recomends a place. Most big cities have at least 2 or 3 options.

I recomend USSD since they are under the Shaolin Temple in China and have the Shaolin headmasters blessings and approval.

study one martial art and dedicate your self to it for at least 5 years, and practice on your own everyday for at least 2 hours. and keep your body fit and eat right and treat everyone well...

Then you will have lived the meaning Kung Fu.

umm, find a spot that teaches it around you, or look around for a video that does if there is one. The lessons would probably be more valuable.
