THE FIRST way to tell it's gender is by their vocal sounds. Males will whistle alot and they can be taught all kinds of whistles. Females do not learn alot of whistles. This test is not accurate. ANOTHER WAY you can determine it's gender is by going to this link http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww22eiv.htm, it plays the sound of a male cockatiel wanting to mate. If your tiel is a male, it will whistle the xact same thing. If it's a female, it will not. Believe or not, I thought my pet tiel was female, but when I put it near the speaker and play the whistle, it copied the same thing. THIRD WAY is to go to an avian vet and get a DNA test. It cost's about 20-25$

1 - look at the red patch on the cheek - is it a really bright solid red, or a little faded? males tend to have a brighter red.
2 - look under the wing flight feathers and long tail feathers - a female has pale yellow bands running horizontally across the feathers - a male's is solid colour.

The only way to know for sure is a DNA test.
Your vet can do it for you. If you don't have a vet, you can find one at http://aav.org/vet-lookup

you can find out at a vet, they mail a blood sample somewhere and then they tell you if it is a boy or girl.
