Not only do soft drinks contain calories, but they also contain a lot of sugar. One can of Coca-Cola has about 10 tablespoons of sugar in it. Imagine how much sugar a large Coke at McDonald's or Burger King has. You could do some research on the side effects of too much sugar. You could get jittery, irritable or uncontrollable. And if you don't exercise, most if not all that sugar converts to fat. Just stick to water and fruit juices. I also like Lipton Brisk Iced Tea every once in a while.

No. And yes. High rates of caffeine consumption - defined in the most recent study as more than 200 mg per day - does appear to raise the risk of miscarriage. Caffeine crosses the placenta, and researchers theorize that it is difficult for developing fetus' bodies to metabolize it. But most sodas have fairly minimal amounts of caffeine. Coca Cola has about 34 mg per 12 ounce can. It's the caffeine in the soft drinks that worries some people about miscarriage. obviously you want to be as healthy as possible during pregnancy... so if you are drinking soda like water all day long.. you might want to change your habits... but nowadays, doctors say limited intake of caffeine can be okay. Also I recommend trying caffeine free coca cola. It won't give you quite the same kick but it still has the same great sugary taste. =]. best of luck!!!

Actually, regular soft drinks & diet soft drinks are equally bad for you. My doctor told me & my husband concures, that the carbonation is hard on your kidneys & bladder. We don't consume a lot of soft drinks, but sometimes, an ice cold diet vanilla pepsi or diet berry & cream dr. pepper just hits the spot... Or an ice cold coors light!!!

There are three problems I know of. The first is the sugar, contributing to obesity and tooth decay. The second is phosphoric acid, contributing to tooth decay. The third is carbonation, which is suspected of contributing to esphogeal cancer.
