or do they sterilize the needle?

Most prisons sterilize the needle to cut down on the risk of hepatitis. As you know, hepatitis is very contagious. They do this to cut down on the infection, so it does not spread to the gurards, medical examiners, and other inmates.

They use a sparkling needle each and every and every time, and all new needles are pre-sterilized. there is particularly no symbolic meaning interior the back of applying a sterile needle; known precautions (sparkling or sterile innovations) are used in all scientific strategies, which includes deadly injection. this saves the guy putting the IV, and each guy or woman else coping with "sharps," and is not any further purely for the large factor with reference to the guy being finished.

couple of reasons:

1. the needles only come sterilized. nobody manufactures unsterile needles anymore

2. there have been cases (some recent) of botched executions. if the inmate needs to be executed again, you don't want him to have an infection that may prevent the 2nd attempt from proceeding.

3. there's every effort made to avoid "cruel and unusual" punishment. using new sterile needles avoids giving the impression that we're somehow mistreating the condemned person.

I guess it's the proper thing to do. It's a life we're talking about! Plus, the government goes through enough trouble by making the last days for the criminal = good days. They give them the meals they want, family gets to visit, and any other wishes (except not dying). So I guess it comes with respect to mankind.

They don't want to be questioned later about the manner of death of the convict (whether he died of lethal injection or blood infection) by picky and "brainy" lawyers. Lawyers can always find a way to make "right" things "wrong".

Your observation is actually a subtle hint of something that is central to the concept of capital punishment in this country. I don't feel like elaborating on it here, but the fact is; capital punishment is an act of vengeance, not retribution!

Wish I knew the answer to that question myself. Doesn't really make sense does it? Did you know that an inmate being sick may also keep him from his "date with destiny" in some jurisdictions?
