Is anyone else wondering 'Why did an omnipotent god who could deliver his word instantenously to EVERY person directly by mouth, get a bunch of power hungry, 1st century men, who needed to unite an empire with a common belief, to write the bible?'

I'm sorry but I can't help but wonder that perhaps this bible isn't REALLY this omnipotent, super creating, all knowing being that have never been physically spotted, or observed with any of the five senses, or if so, at least not in a way where the spotter could prove he was anything more than a psychopathic schizophrenic: But MAYBE it was written by the power hungry first century men who needed to unite an empire with a common belief, to gain power and unite an empire with a common belief??

Does anyone else wonder if this is the case?

Jehovah's Witnesses consider the Bible to be the only infallible inspired means of determining God's will and purposes.

Jehovah's Witnesses consider the Holy Scriptures as the final word in all matters of worship, and actually encourage their adherents to elevate the bible over the human traditions which pass as worship for too many humans.

(Matthew 15:3,9) [Jesus] said to them: “Why is it you also overstep the commandment of God because of your tradition? ...It is in vain that they keep worshiping [God], because they teach commands of men as doctrines.

(Mark 7:8) Letting go the commandment of God, you hold fast the tradition of men.

(Colossians 2:8) Look out: perhaps there may be someone who will carry you off as his prey through the philosophy and empty deception according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary things of the world and not according to Christ

The Bible's accuracy and reliability have been proved and verified over and over again by archaeological finds produced by both believing and nonbelieving scholars and scientists. This included verification for numerous customs, places, names, and events mentioned in the Bible.
One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
Bible scholar Donald J. Wiseman notes, "The geography of Bible lands and visible remains of antiquity were gradually recorded until today more than 23,000 sites within this region and dating to Old Testament times, in their broadest sense, have been located." Nelson Glueck, a specialist in ancient literature, did an exhaustive study and concluded: "It can be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a biblical reference." Well-known scholar William F. Albright, following a comprehensive study, wrote: "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of History."

There are more than 24,000 partial and complete manuscript copies of the New Testament. These manuscript copies are very ancient and they are available for inspection NOW. there are also some 86,000 quotations from the early church fathers and several thousand lectionaries (church-service books containing Scripture quotations used in the early centuries of Christianity). In fact, there are enough quotations from the early church fathers that even if we did not have a single copy of the Bible, scholars could still reconstruct all but 11 verses of the entire New Testament from material written within 150 to 200 years from the time of Christ. Bottom line: The New Testament has an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting its reliability.

You could be right, but it makes far more sense, you are not looking at this correctly, and not just "wondering" either. You know how you feel about it, and its clear. It makes a lot of sense, the Bible, the cannon, the unlikely writers, the amount of time it spans, the continuity it contains, the historical accuracy, and legitimate eyewitness accounts, with God orchestrating the whole thing, so we are not left in the dark about him. It is very kind of him, actually. So no, I don't wonder what you are wondering. I wonder how you can not "seem" to be very intellectually honest with the facts you DO know about it. I mean no offense to you personally, only, I hope you don't sacrifice truth and knowledge for something of much less worth than those.

I see your point, but it doesn't hold any water. The bible can be interpreted as being literal, (in my opinion it would lose 99% of its function) or the bible could be read as a spiritual guide. If we take the story of genesis. You could take it literally that Adam and Eve were the first two humans, they sinned, retribution. blah, blah blah. Cain and able.. blah blah, son's marry.. Whoa, where did the other women come from? Today it would be call poor continuity and plot devices. The bible was not meant to be taken literally. God and Adam walked together in paradise as if they were almost equal. Best buds. (I find it hard to believe) Adam is whole. But lonely. Eve is made from Adam's rib. (Adam is no longer whole. The only way that Adam can be whole is by joining with Eve. The story is not about the creation of man, but marriage and the worth of man or a woman is less than the man and woman united.

We do not teach the mythos in great works of literature anymore. If you read it as science fact, then the point is lost.

The Bible features intricate complexities that are simply impossible to craft into a document of this magnitude. It has so many interlocking parts. The more you study it, the more it's infinite complexity is revealed, much like the universe we live in. This Bible is not simply a book that was authored by the imaginations of greedy men. It's origin is not found in this world, although it was written with its ink wells.

And if God delivers His Word directly to each person by mouth where does faith come in?

God is GOD. He can use any method He chooses. Who are we to tell Him He did it the wrong way? Do you not think as GOD He is influential enough to give the words to the writers of the Bible? Do you not think He is GOD enough to give wisdom the the interpreters so that we could know and understand what He meant in the original version?

How cruel would God be to send His Son to die a cruel and terrible death on the cross that save us from our sins only to allow His WORD to be mis-stated or mis-interpreted so that we cannot understand or gain the knowledge needed to accept that gift?

Do you think it's coincidence that the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are almost identical even though they were written by 4 different men in 4 different parts of the world at 4 different times? If you were accused of a murder would you like for us to discredit 4 completely unrelated witnesses who give us the same story of your innocence and chalk it all up to coincidence?

Your right on David T but it's just a little long. Actually God has been seen physically, first by Adam and Eve, and more recently by the Prophet Joseph Smith in the 1800's. As well as by several prophets in the Book Of Mormon. And before you start judging this particular book of prophecy I would challenge you to read it! After all you can't judge something you haven't read for your self! And while your reading, take the prophet Moroni up on his challenge as well.

God is a concept that makes people more comfortable with being alive and with getting through life, and it’s a concept which causes people to be more moral than they would otherwise because there’s this invisible sort of threat, behind the possibility of dying and not going to heaven. You know, I think that’s all really good stuff. I personally don’t need any kind of threats to be moral, it’s always been just my nature to be kind to people and to do all those things that the bible recommends that you do, I do them purely because that’s the way I am, it’s not because I think I’m going to go to hell if I don’t do them.
You know, I’m sure if I felt a void in myself or I felt the need to search for something like that then I would, maybe, go after God as a way to fill it, or as a way to find what I was searching for, but I’m not really searching for anything, and I’m really in amazement constantly at the world as it is, and I think it’s incredible just exactly the way it is, and I think there’s lots of other worlds that are incredible in different ways. I’m just really lucky to be in this one and I look forward to being in other ones in the future and, you know, there seems to be obviously a deep intelligence that runs through everything, but I don’t think of it as being one person, or something. I just think of it as being the order of the universe you know, it’s, to me when people say God it kind of sounds like they’re talking about, you know, one person who invented everything, or something. That doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t think it ever has. No offense, like I said, I mean in all sincerity that I really think god is a great concept to help people, and I think it does a really good job.

shhh, this is another secret that the christians want to keep hidden. most christian churches preach blind faith for a reason man, its to stop this questioning that may lead to the realisation that its fabricated. the church stands to lose billions of dollars a year from this.

expect a visit from the local church group.

and to PAMELA below me: how can you say that it would be cruel to kill jesus in that situation. because there is no death within god. therefore nothing is cruel, for all will be undone. you people cant see the forest for the trees. jesus had pain, but he knew he was immortal. their was no loss to him for dying. he gave up nothing. its like gambling on a sure thing. you lose only to gain.

Yes, many people wonder and see this. It is certainly true today. What did you think "Winning the hearts and minds of the people" really meant?
The beast and the false prophet really does work. King Aurthor and Merlin the magician. Why did Pharoah need priests?
"To the simple religion is true
To the wise religion is false
To the rulers religion is usefull."
