I was wondering if I could get it done and instead of a ring, get a retainer put in immediately and wait until it heals to put in a ring that I could takeout whenever I needed to. Friends have told me, no you can't. But I wanted other opinions from experience, etc. And quitting my job isn't an option, gotta pay the bills.

I just got my septum done about a year ago. I'm not positive but I believe you can have a retainer put in right away. The only problem with that is then you have to leave that in for 6 months and that kind of sucks because then nobody including yourself can see your cool new piercing! You can get the horse shoe shaped ring and flip it up in your nose if the ring has a big enough space between the 2 balls to fit around the middle of your nose when you try to flip it up. That's what I thought I would do also but the ring they used didn't have a big enough space between the balls to do so. Luckily my job is ok with it. And definitely don't listen to what anyone thinks about piercings. If you want one get one! When I had mine done I was a little scared that it was going to hurt more than any of the other piercings I had but guess what? The piercer went to do the piercing and she said, "Okay done". I didn't even know she had done it! Awesome! Good luck!

I have my septum pierced and I have several friends with the same piercing. I wear a horseshoe.

One option I have considered is getting one of those round horse shoe ones with the balls on the end. If that makes any sense...

My friend has one and flips it up all the time no problem. He actually says it stays flipped up better than the retainer.

If you do decide to get it done, make sure you go to a reputable piercer. I found the piercing to be relatively painless and my septum healed very well.

For all you people saying how she'll regret it in 30 years need to understand that removing the septum ring will not leave any noticeable scars (unless you've stretched it to tribal extremities).

I say go for it.

Are you really sure you want to get this done? Can you see yourself with a septum piercing 30 years from now?

If you have considered quitting a job because they wont let you get a piercing you really need to reassess lifes priorities.

Not sure about the retainer, but I know people who flip up the horseshoe into their nose when they go to work. You can't even tell their septum is pierced.

Maybe this is "God's way of telling you" not to get your septum pierced. :)
