Because religious folk have closed minds.
The definition of a religion is faith; the belief in something that cannot be proven or disproven. Once you have faith in something then your mind is closed to all alternative explanations or theories.
The most famous example is evolution; since the Bible doesn't mention it some people don't believe in it, despite all the evidence in front of them. The strongest evidence is dogs; all dogs were related to one single animal. The huge variety of dog breeds that we have today is a result of man's influence on the evolution of the species. Just because man did it in a few thousands of years doesn't mean that nature can't do it in a few million or billion years. However, there are people who believe that the bible is the literal truth. These same people HAVE to believe that the sun revolves around the earth, but they conveniently overlook that.
Science and the scientific method have been all the rage for the last 2000 years, despite the best efforts of the religious folk. The scientific method requires an open mind. Steven Hawking invented the idea of black holes, but he had doubt and later on he disbelieved it. An astronomer thought that black holes existed and he made a bet with Steven Hawking on that. Steven Hawking lost the bet. He would have been just as happy to have won the bet, IF he could understand the physics that proved it. He has an open mind and is willing to abandon a theory IF he finds or is shown evidence that disproves his theory.
The core of the scientific method is that a theory is proposed, and then evidence is collected to support or not support that theory. When there is a preponderance of proof for or against the theory then the scientist proposes this theory and puts it up to the scientific community to independently judge it, examine the evidence, compose their own theories, and finally to consider it acceptable or not. Black holes are a fact, a theory proven to be true. Cold Fusion is not considered to be a valid theory because the scientists that examined the theory couldn't reproduce the experiment. So the after many independent scientists could not reproduce the effect then they started work on the theory about WHY it was not possible. The scientific community didn't ridicule the people involved in cold fusion for their theory; they did ridicule them on the bad experiments and poor science that they used.
The core of any religion is "I have a holy book, and it holds all the secrets of the universe, as written. The book can't be changed in main, and it is valid in spite of any evidence to prove otherwise." To me, and a lot of other people (some who just happened to be scientists), this idea is foolish. Our understanding is continuing to develop and grow. As we work on it we learn new things, in almost every field. A book written, by men, thousands of years ago doesn't reflect the advancement in understanding, so they are not valid. It is almost impossible to disprove an article of faith, but the bible has two notable errors; the tale of Adam and Eve, and the statement that all things revolve around the Earth. If religious folk would admit that the bible is flawed, it can be questioned, and even rewritten (which King James did in the 1600s) then it would carry more weight. Last year the gospels according to Judas were found in a clay jar hidden in the holy land. However, that gospel will never be put into the bible or considered a part of it. Not because Judas betrayed Jesus, he was destined to do it and HAD NO CHOICE but to do it. It won't be considered because it wasn't available to be included in the roman convention called in 200 AD when the bible was first compiled (only the Hebrews held the Torah, there version of the Old Testament until this point. I could go on with subjects proposed in the Divinci Code, but I don’t want to offend the religious folk too much. I could also point out that other religions also have critical errors; like according to the Hindi religion the universe is a lotus blossom that sprouts from the belly of Bharama.
Instead I will say that religious people have all their thinking done for them by their religion while the rest of us are willing to look at new evidence and new theories. If we explore those theories then our entire world won’t be shaken, just a few concepts. Things like ending racial prejudices require an open mind so you can think how that other person would think and accept the fact that they are human. This has been in vogue since the 1960s, however some of the strongest resistors to that idea use religion as a basis.
If you don’t have an open mind, and by definition religious folk don’t, then you can’t accept the new concepts required in the world today. The bible never mentioned computers, so they don’t exist. The bible never mentioned cloning or genetic operations so they can’t be done. The bible never discussed stem cell research so that can’t be done either, no matter what good it can do, no matter that the only eggs used are those to be thrown out. Of course religious folk won’t have a problem with a mother having a second child so the stem cells provided by the second child can be used to save the first child. This kind of closed, reversed, and convenient thinking is not in fashion and doesn’t work well in a fast pace world when technology can make radical changes in a few years. So religious folk are not in fashion.

Politically incorrect to be a Christian? Tell that to George W Bush. Who do you think scored him a second term? Why do you think Hillary Clinton has just discovered Jesus? It's never been more politically correct to be a Christian. In some circles it's politically mandatory.

Its politically incorrect somewhat to be a FUNDAMENTAL christian, not a christian. You know, all those people you may refer to as ungodly unbelievers are usually christians that belong to the churche congregations that have at least learnt a bit through time, and therefore acknowledge it as a religion and not a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Too many Fundamental Agnostic Christians in charge

Because you believe in absolute truth. To be absolute in something is to discredit all other things. To discredit other things means that those things are wrong. If those ideas are wrong-then the people who believe them are wrong. If you say peoples beliefs are wrong-then you are attacking their culture. If you attack their culture- you are attacking them and that is not acceptable.
So If I were to say that a burner on a stove is hot because I know it was turned on and I can see the glow- does that mean I should share it with someone who is about to touch it-of course. But I am saying an absolute. What if that person believes that they have a stronger pain tolerance than most, or that the burner isn't on-should I respect their views and just let them get burned because I don't want to hurt their feelings?
No, I will tell them of the danger because I do care. People don't see-we know the truth. Others may have had lies told to them in different religions or by society-but harm is harm- and I couldn't live with myself if I didn't try and save people from the heat.
So it is an absolute- but that's O.K. cause as long as I absolutely share it in love-then people will not take it as an attack and take it for what it is- absolute hope.

It's because Christianity has some strange beliefs in it's background that bashes diversity. Of course, the core beliefs of all religions are the same: Treat others as you wish to be treated. But sometimes people can't help but focus on the negative sides of a religion, so I guess that's why people are unfairly judging Christianity these days.

It’s not. The majority of People in the USA are Christian. Are own president is a self proclaimed Christian. In fact it is an unspoken prerequisite to becoming president. It’s politically incorrect not to be a Christian.
Christians are always boo-hooing about how they (the majority) are so “trampled on”
It’s a load.

Because the world changes to accommodate everybody's feelings and desires and needs and 'rights.' The Bible says God is the same yesterday, today and forever. He doesn't change to be politically correct. God calls the sin of homosexuality an abomination and He destroyed entire cities for it. The world today says whatever feels right, just do it. Don't try to suppress who you really are! Let's pass laws allowing gay marriage. When the Christian stands up and says "I cannot support this" we are labeled as homophobic and hateful when all we are doing is standing by God and His Word. It's the same with abortion. God says that He knew us before we were formed in the womb. To me that means a fertilized seed in the womb is viable to God. But because we don't want to interfere with women's "rights" we tell them it's ok to murder their unborn. Those who know it's wrong are looked at as freaks when we are the only ones standing by our convictions. 100 years ago it wasn't ok in society either. We cannot be Christ-like and condone the actions of the present-day world. I'm happy to say I'm politically incorrect because being Biblically-correct and pleasing in the eyes of God means so much more to me than the people around me who look down on me for not jumping on the bandwagon.

I wouldn't say politically incorrect exactly, but it defiantely is a hot topic. As for why, because of the constant contraversy that christians tend to cause in the public eye, boycotting anything that doesn't fit their moral code of behavior and conduct, attempting to impact laws based on their religious beliefs, etc. They put themselves in the limelight constantly with their childish antics, attempting to make the entire majority serve the moral code their religion teaches, then wonder why people are annoyed with them.

because the Secular Humanists are inclined to political and legal venue while religion has lost these proclivities to the past for the embarrassment of pedophilia and other dividing controversies dealing with gay and gender in the infrastructure etc.
Also education and communication has prompted the disbelief of the tenets of theism and other non moral constructs added to the creed or belief list of modern so called Christians who are thought not of the original truth. These ideas and others only serve to proliferate the growth and conversion to atheism.

I think it really doesn't matter to many people like Joe said. This generation got lost, and sees God as a monster in the sky, instead of the loving Father that He is. I didn't know there were so many unbelievers until I found Yahoo answers.
