I have a '71 Maverick, brown 4-door with a 250 sixbanger and a C4 auto. Even though this car is a killer the way it is, I'm kinda crazy and I want to squeeze even more performance out of it. I'm thinking of boosting it up into the low 30 second 1/4 mile ET's and maybe adding some woodgrain trim, but the guys at Autozone aren't much help. I even asked about performance intakes (like a pair of Carter 1 barrels with K&N filters), but they just shook their heads and laughed cause they don't know how anyone could want that much power. Can anybody help? Send your replies care of the psych ward at Riverview General.

I think hooking up a couple BUDWEISER CLYDESDALES would do the trick!

I like the humor you added into your question. It's actually surprising what the 250 Ford will do. When I was in high school my first Mustang was a 250 six. My next one was a 302. Both were 1970 Mustangs. The first one got rearended by a VW bug (one of the old ones because this was years ago). Have you ever considered for the sake of being different, the 240 and 300 sixes out of a truck? While they are a different engine family than the 200/250, they pack quite a punch for a six. Something to think about.

Either you're joking, or your ride is ready for a rebuild.
A 30 sec. ET in the quarter can easily be accomplished on a bicycle, so unless little Sally is blowing your doors off on her tricycle, I'm not sure what ET you're actually looking for.
Adding wood grain trim? Unless you mean wood grain dash inserts, I can see shy they laughed at you.
In any event, the little Ford I6 is a good engine, but you're not going to get much power from it.
A 302 is an easy swap for the Maverick, all brackets and hardware are bolt ons, and it will cost you less in dollars-per-horsepower than trying to build the six.

Hey man, just be GLAD that a '71 maverick still runs- you have a classic there and your car will be worth more money with all of the original parts that you can maintain. If you want a hotrod, go buy a junker, fix it up and take it to the drag races. Take care of your baby, she is fragile.
