As a form of competetion or as an art?

In either case I would say yes.

ISKA, K-1, and many other kickboxing organizations still hold international events under Muay Thai rules.

It is still huge in Thailand, and utilized in MMA quite often as well.

There are great Thai boxers out there right now fighting under K-1 Muay Thai rules.

As an art it is steadily growing as it continually shows it's effectiveness in MMA events. There are new Muay Thai schools popping up all over.

What you see on Ong Bak is Muay Boran, a more fomalized and harder (if that is possible) form of Muay Thai. Though more of the Ong Bak stuff was actually Muay Thai.

So yes, to answer your question I hope. It remains a legitimate Martial Art that is growing in popularity and it remains a competetive kickboxing style as every major kickboxing organization has Thai kickboxing rule matches.

Hope that is of some help.

Ong Bak is not "real" muai thai, it is movie it is movie based muai thai that exxagerates the common stereotypes of a style.

Muai thai is known for clinch work, elbows and knees, thats why it looked like he did all those ridiculous flying knees and elbows.

Entertaining, but ridiculous.

Yes.

My old college roommate is studying Muy Thai the last I spoke with him. At a tournament a few years ago, I saw a couple guys go at it using Thai boxing rules - it was the most vicious and bloody fight of the day.

yeah Muay Thai is practiced around the world, it may not be practiced as fervently as it is taught in Thailand but it is taught.

and dude, you shouldn't believe what you see in the movies, they only use a very small amount of truth to what you see to make the story look good.

you folks should really think about this stuff before putting a lot of stock in what you see in the movies.

Yes, there are cards held on a weekly basis in Bangkok. Just because kickboxing fell out of fashion in the west doesn't mean it dropped off the face of the earth.
