what OSHA Specific code is applicable to heavy equipment inspection? For example; crane standard 29 CFR 1926.55. I wan to know the codes related to the following equipment inspection:
1) Backhoe or hydraulic excavator
2) Bulldozer
3) Motor Grader
4) Vibratory compactor
5) Payloader
6) Dumpt Trucks
7) All heavy equipment/off-road equipment

If you are doing construction, then 1926 is for you....if just doing vehicle inspections, then you would fall under general industry 1910.

Look under "industrial trucks"

Best answer - call or visit your local OSHA (or state OSHA plan) for a more complete answer for your situation.

You'll have to do this data mining yourself, as the rest of us do. OSHA has a website - I believe you can search by categories related to the above equipment, and links are provided to the pertinent sections of the CFR, the FAR or any other governing code.

Another approach is to find manufacturers to see to which ANSI standards they comply. This list is a good starting point, as current manufacturers of this type of equipment must be in compliance for US sales.

OSHA is about occupational safety -

sounds like your question refers to equipment maintenance.

On the other hand, for example, if the reverse alarm (beep, beep, beep) is non functional on your heavy equipment, then it is an OSHA violation because it is jeopardizing the safety of workers.

I do not believe that the OSH act has anything to do with code inspection!
