Palm tree grows in Desert because of its root.

Cactus, Palm tree all these kinda trees/plants have very long deep roots...
In desert, as u might know the water level is very very low.. hence these are the only trees that have the ebility to absorb water even from Desert region that enables them in photosynthesis... hence the reason...

now don ask me how come they grow without someone planting them.. i guess the seeds thrown here and there get carried away and develop... :)

Could be that that area wasnt always a desert, and has a watger table underground where the palnt gets its water from/ The area might not be a true desert (for example phenoix is not a true desert and is actually semi arid). Some palms can handle long periods of time with very little moisuture (like mexican and california fan palms as well as medditeranean fan palms). Lastly it might only look like a palm tree but maybe its a yucca which can handle dry conditions quite well.

scatterd here & there in desert areas are occasional collection of water, around which fresh looking palms thrive, this area is called an oasis & is a very fertile piece of land even though it may be in the middle of a dessert. The palms are usually date palms & the fruit , the date ,is almost a staple for the tribes settled around the oasis.

First of all, palms aren't trees.

Then it would depend on which palm and which desert, but basically they're adapted to that climate through millions of years of evolution.

well... u might be knowing, there is water under the ground which gets trapped under the sand and these plants are well adapted with long fibrous roots, which grow deep inside to absorb this water. They also have thorny leaves and fleshy bark which enables them to save as much water as possible from getting dried up in the desert. hope that helps.

Iraq is not as arid as the Sahara. Iraq gets winter rainfall and is drained by two rivers.
