Ear infections aren't always painful. You can experience vertigo (feeling like you don't know which way is up), dizziness, excess earwax, pressure (like you need to 'pop' your ears), itchiness, and even coughing/sneezing for no obvious reason. The pain can also feel like it's down inside your neck, because there is a drainage tube (caled the Eustachian tube) that goes from your ear to your throat.

If you pull gently down or out on your earlobe, the symptoms can ease (or give you a sharp pain!), which is why many children tug on their ears when they have an infection.

Signs and complications of an ear infection

Ear pain may be the first symptom of an ear infection, especially if the ear pain develops during or shortly after a cold.

Moderate to severe ear pain, when other symptoms are present, may indicate an ear infection. Other symptoms may include:

1.Swelling, heat, or tenderness around or behind the ear.
2.Redness of the ear, ear canal, or skin around or behind the ear.
3.Drainage from the ear that does not appear to be earwax.
4.Itching of the ear or ear canal.
5.Fever.

Inner ear pain....at least that is what I had. It is not the same as a heachache. More like a high throbbing pain. Seek medical attention.
