I was wondering? I keep several handguns in my home for personal defense. Also several semi auto rifles. Does anyone else believe in keeping weapons in their home for self defense purposes? If so, what type of weapons are they, and would you use them without hesitation if you had to? O, and is it true that liberals are afraid to keep weapons in their home for self defense? Thanks, I look forward to getting answers on this!!

Bound's hubby here:

In short, YES!

Where we live, it has taken the State Police over 45 minutes to respond to a 9-1-1 call, if they even show up! Since 9/11, the barracks that is responsible for where we live has only 4 troopers per shift patrolling an area of several hundred square miles. From 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., that is reduced to 2 cars! So, it is imperative that we look out for ourselves!

Therefore, while our home could be mistaken for an armory for a well equipped Scout-Sniper unit, we have taken adequate steps to insure our safety. First, any poor, dumb, b*****d has to defeat the alarm system and get past our protective lab that alerts us to any movement within our village. Then, the ill-informed will be faced either by the S&W Chief's "Target" Special my wife prefers or the S&W K38 Masterpiece I use in combat matches. [NOTE: while I prefer a M1911 in .45, I feel safer reaching for a DA revolver in the middle of the night not fully awake over a semi-auto I am intimately familiar with ... just a safety preference. The pair of S&Ws (loaded with Federal Hydra-shocks) are backed up by a Remington 870 Deer Gun loaded with "OO" Buckshot and an M1Carbine.

Would I use them? I would not hesitate to! After all, it is difficult to visualize someone mistakenly entering the house, especially if they encounter both the alarm system and the dog, before the armed citizen. Anyone that continues beyond an activated alarm has bad intentions, and those intentions will not be exercised against my family!

Actually, the liberals I am aware of do not rely on their own guns to protect them, they hire gun wielding individuals to protect them ... just think back to the stories of Jane Fonda or life-guard Teddy and their infamous machine gun-toting body guards!

As an aside, none of the firearms in my home were purchased for self-defense ... but they can and will be employed in that capacity as long as criminals have more rights in our society that the law-abiding private citizen does!

As far back as I can remember we've always kept guns at home for home protection and hunting. My Dad kept a loaded .38 Special beneath the mattress. The rifles were always unloaded while in the house. That was the rule.

I keep my service automatic, a Glock Model 20 .10mm w/Trijicon night-sights fully loaded in our bedroom by our bed. My nightstand guns are a stainless steel Beretta Model 3032 Tomcat .32acp loaded w/Winchester Silvertips & two extra clips; a Walters P-22 with fitted laser sight and extra magazine with Mini Mag ammo. I have to worry about 'over-penetration,' but the .10mm is always close by if I need more firepower.

The rest of my handguns & long guns are safely stored unloaded under lock and key, with quick access to the appropriate ammo. I have a cel phone right by the bed also, and two outdoor dogs and a couple of indoor 'lap' dogs that are even more alert to prowlers than the outdoor dogs. Really, the dogs are my first line of defense; then the cel phone w/911 capability. Finally, whatever fire power may be necessary to stop the threat. Prayer is always present, that such a situation may never threaten our home.

Best wishes & Happy New Year!

Yes me and my wife both sleep with hand gun both .45 acp she has an eaa witness and I usually Carry a p14-45. I have a gun safe full of guns but I do typically have 2 870 shotguns in my bedroom On each side of the bed. I have a 3 gun rack on the wall where I keep my rpk(ak-47), k98 and Remington 7400. I believe its every red blooded Americans responsibility to have an armed home. I'M not paranoid there are a lot of criminals out there. Peace through Superior firepower. I'm also a ffl gun dealer so being armed is a priority. we need to maintain the 2nd amendment at all costs. I would not hesitate to shoot an intruder but really I rather not have to shoot someone of coarse. I don't retreat. If they are still there after I rack my shotgun then well they made a bad decision about there welfare. I also believe in firearm education. I had a small enough gun store where I could tell people about safe gun ownership teach them to take gun down to take proper care of it.

keep on shooting.

I have one that can suit that purpose. Let's face it. We own guns because we LIKE them and they are cool. We kill targets and animals (I actually do not hunt). If you are serious about self-defense, get a ccw permit. Common sense prevails when you have children or a depressed wife. An awful lot of us are fortunate to live in decent suburbs where the threat level is very low. I am tired of "renegades" who think that they are normal for having a 9mm under their pillow. That is not normal, unless you have made enemies or live in fear.

My life, and the careers that I once had, have shown me the importance of CCW, I carry everywhere I legally can, Everywhere.
I go to the range twice a week, do steel speed drills once a month and take night shooting classes every few months.
There is nothing wrong with being prepared.
There is a firearm in the house whenever, I or any of my family is there.

I keep several weapons in my house. From handguns I have sizes ranging in 22 magnum up to 454. My 9mm is by my bed at all times unless I am carrying it.

I also have several rifles, numerous shotguns that I collect, one that is for protection, and one that I hunt deer with. I also have an AK47 knockoff with several 30 and 40 round clips.

I would not hesitate to use them if the need arose.

I have two loaded handguns, a .40 and a 9x18 Makarov, that are loaded and ready to go at all times. Unless I'm at work, the 9x18 is with me, as a general rule. I also have two 12 gauges with sidesaddle carriers on them that can be ready in under 3 seconds.

I have several guns in my house, and if I needed to, I would use them for personal defense. I have two in my bedroom closet, so if someone broke in, I could get them immediately. Don't worry, I don't have any kids around, I live alone.

Nope. Not a liberal, and I siupport the right to keep and bear arms, but there is a risk to have guns in many occasions that superceed the urgency to posess them:
1) I have little kids running around. As they age and get older and smarter, they inevitably can find my cache and outsmart the best plan to secure the weapon. Same can be said for dangerous tools so I keep them out of the house since I don;t need them.
2) I have had a spouse with depression. Access to a gun is an easy solution sometimes and more compelling that other ways of suicide. So it makes sence to keep it away.
3) I live in a area that really doesn;t require it. My cell phone or bedroom phone will be a better protestion that finding the gun lock key, retrieving the ammo, loading up and then confronting the enemy.

WIll I get one, maybe in the future...but not now.

Lighten up, will ya?Your question is provakative rather than informative.

I keep a loaded .45 1911A1 and a good flashlight within reach and a nervous dog as early warning.

As a family man, if you do not have a firearm in the house to protect your family you are in direlection of duty. I would shoot an intruder in a flash and so would my wife.

Liberals think it's the job of the police to protect them and their family, why would anyone trust a stranger to that? Especially one that takes 30 min. to get there.
