Gadds, where do you live? It can vary wildly from region to region and be complicated by man's modern diet a diet demanding flavor and variety. Here in Hawai'i as a single male on a modest budget it works out to $400 to $500 a month. That said, if you truly can live on Saimin & Tuna (a student staple) you ought to be able to exist on $200 to $300 a month. And if you are young & presentable, more or less civilized, there are lots of free meals to be enjoyed; when I was young I often 'crashed' wedding receptions and birthday parties, often if you are not 'hungry,' are patient & presentable, food will find you. Peace & a Prosperous New Year.....

I am trying to be conservative in my food consumption. I spend around $100-$200 a month on food, so in a year, I would spend between $1200-$2400.

I have a discount card at our grocery store. That helps. I also live alone, so I don't have to worry about paying for roommates' food. If you have roommates, you may want to estimate around $3k.

You would think roommates would make things cheaper, but more people=more food=more money.
