Why do many Christians think Harry Potter is bad for Children?
I read a story about a young wiccan girl that was tormented by her classmates who trapped her in a corner chanting "Jesus loves you," and sang hyms to her in the hall between classes. The torment and loss of friends was enough to cause her to hang herself. But of course lets not forget the typical harassment from other Christians to non believers. Oh, and that little thing called the Inquisition? Yeah, that was a movement by the church, and alot of people died. Plus of course the witch trials in europe.
I'm not saying the Bible or all Christians are bad, but why is it if a kid reads Harry Potter or plays Dungeons and Dragons or Magic the Gathering, then becomes involved in the occult, it's because those are the tools of Satan, but when people DIE because of Christianity or the Bible, that's just human error? Can't Satan use the Bible for his purposes as well?

Christians are always looking for a scapegoat. That's all there is to it.
"My kid killed 103 people at school because he listened to rap/hiphop/rock/metal and or read Harry Potter/Eragon/LOTR! It's obvious that this writer's/musician's work is a product of satan and is straight from hell. Never could it be our bad parenting or the fact that we don't discipline our children or the fact that they got guns from us or relatives that led to this! No no, of course not. We'll just blame Canada."
Wait a few more years and Sponge Bob Gay Pants will be back on the news corrupting our children. Along with the gay Teletubby. (Of course, it could never be the priests molesting our children.... no no.. it HAS to be the cartoons)

I think the word witchcraft freaks some Christians because they associate it with the devil. And there's the fact that Harry Potter is targeted at kids....but then so was Star Wars. If Obi-Wan Kenobi was called a witch instead of a Jedi I think some people would have a problem with it even if the story line was the same.
I happen to like Harry Potter and I think it's harmless enough because it's comic book witchcraft. There are real people who practice what they call witchcraft but they don't fly on broomsticks or battle dragons. You won't learn witchcraft from Harry Potter any more than you'll learn seamanship from Popeye the Sailor. Anyhow I'd rather see a kid watching Harry Potter than most of the trashy sitcoms on TV.

Lets not forget the many many Christians that were put to death over hundreds of years. They died in the coliseums, were hanged, and they were tortured by the Roman empire. They were murdered just because they chose not to worship a man (the Roman emperor) who considered himself a deity. The blame and religious attacks can go both ways you know.
Anyway, I am a Christian, yet I understand that the Harry Potter series is just a storybook. In fact, I have all 6 and I am eagerly awaiting number 7. I also play D&D and Magic. They're both fun games. Just because I participate in these activities doesn't make me any less a Christian because I understand that they are just games and stories. Nothing more.
Any game, activity, or religion can become dangerous if taken too far.

Harry Potter is a fictional series.
JK Rowling personally does not support magic outside of the imagination between her readers and her writing.
Once again, the Harry Potter series is fictional. Once people realize and accept that, everything else should be black and white.
I am a Christian and I enjoy the Harry Potter series very much. This does not make me un-Christian because reading any book outside the Bible shouldn't cause you to forsake Christ.
And as far as your example, shame on the children for doing that, the teachers and parents who didn't discipline them (because they verbally should have been) because Jesus CERTAINLY wouldn't want us to back someone in a corner.

This is the convoluted argument that gets passed around and is very frustrating to hear.
Are you not aware that you are using generalizations to further a baseless case against God?
There are no less than SEVEN generalizatiions in your argument.
This is what Satan does - just enough reason to those who are not educated about the Bible sound good and you go right into throw the basis of Christianity out.
Kids chanting Jesus loves you to torture someone? You are watching too many Hollywood movies- how can you possibly defend wicca in such a vague description anyway? The Inquistion? There are over 2 billion Christians in the world who have found the truth, love and forgiveness of God - and the assurance of eternal life.
The last paragraph is rambling nonsense - ever take a logic or English composition class?
You do not seem to understand that there is a spiritual battle for the hearts and minds of people while you focus on people, and not on God.
You seem to have read Harry Potter - read the Bible.

adult men, have you ever even examine the bible? i do no longer care regardless of in case you're an atheist. it incredibly is the seminal e book in western custom. in case you hate God or have not got self assurance he exists thats no longer suitable. and don't blame a e book packed with virtues for hatred. There are hateful atheists too. in simple terms examine countless the posts that i'm optimistic will shop on with. As for Harry Potter, its a in simple terms fantasy approximately good as against evil. i'm sorry the author felt it mandatory to be openly laptop yet this is her actual. it style of feels to be the reason d' jour. My gay little brother (i'm in vast brothers) would be happy with the alternative.

absolutely he can. Those events in history are unfortunate and I believe the result of darkness in our fallen world. I don't think Harry Potter is bad. It's a story, nothing more. I do think Many Christians blow things out of proportion. But I also believe D&D, Magic the Gathering and reading occult books like Harry Potter resulting in someone turning to the occult is very troubling to me....just as it is troubling to me that people die because of bad people doing awful terrible things in God's name...i.e. the Crusades, the Inquisition. I think it grieves God terribly when that stuff does happen. I don't believe God was behind the horrible crimes committed in the His Name. That is exactly how Satan uses the things of God to his own glory...he twists it and perverts it.

Well yes, Satan can use the bible for his purposes, He twisted Gods law to Adam and Eve. He also is what the bible says the god of this world. Governments and anything else, he has a degree of control. Including the attitude of so called Christians as you stated above. Jesus set the example we should follow. Anything else is wrong and un-christian or part of the world.

Anybody that thinks that books are are evil are closed-minded bigots! That need a reality check! So someone can go murder a hundred people but then go to church say "sorry" and it would be OK, but if they read Harry Potter they will burn in hell?! I'm sorry but that makes no sense to ME.
