We believe the whole Bible because we know its true. If we were to pick & choose how could we know what we were picking was correct.

The Bible is the complete Word of God. It is a completed manuscript where no one can add anything to it, per God. Also is a best seller, there are more Bibles purchased each year than any other book for as long as its been out.

However, once you believe in Christ, the Holy Spirit enters your heart and thru the Holy Spirit, we are then able to understand the Bible. 1 Corinthians 2:14 says the man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to Him and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The non-Christian is basically dominated by the physcial, worldly, or natural life. Because he does not possess the Holy Spirit, he is not equipped to receive truth that comes from the Spirit. Even what I just wrote will be foolishness to many people.

In 1 Corinthians 1:18 says, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.

I believe the old testament is the history of the Jews, and the new testament is based on the teachings of Christ. How can someone say they believe in the whole Bible, when on one hand, it states an eye for an eye, and then, turn the other cheek!!! There is a natural evolution in the human story which the Bible does not cover !! Many of the stories are metaphors, and not to be taken literally.
When the Bible was translated many of the original meanings where lost. Example, everywhere it says father, using the literal translation, it should say daddy. To me there is a real deference in the meaning and use of those titles !!!
So, I guess, I don't believe in the whole Bible!!!!

Yes - Christians believe the Bible to be the word of God for the people of God...inseparable. To understand this, you have to study the Bible and get into fellowship with other Christians. It is fun and great to learn. If some group only believes bits and pieces and make things up as they go along - they are not worth following.

You will find that Christians follow the Bible and want to read it because of what Jesus has done for them. Consider this; your best friend has asked you to do something that does not cost you anything, only to accept him/her. Will you still do this favor and find out about it, or not.

As far as tradition and ceremonies and rites, I think Catholics are big on this. Many Catholics reform once out of their parent's roof and are big on anti religion.

This country has gone through such a huge religion crisis since the early 70s (before my time) but we saw prayer in school abolished, pro choice agendas taught in school, and many new age doctrines being taught as truth. Why is America, the Christian nation in such economic and political trouble? Hmmm. People are so blind and accusatory about the Christians, but God has shown in the old Testament that He will turn His back on those who do not follow Him. The Israelites turned from God constantly, and each time, God let their enemies overcome them.

Anyways, the old testament points to the new testament. The prophets of the old testament foretold of Christ's coming, and the new testament told how we can live under the Holy Spirit. The whole Bible is what God gave us, so why not read it all.

Sorry for preaching and hope it helped

Some christians are taught that the bible is the LITERAL truth, that every word happened in history and that there is no room for analysis. Others are taught to read the bible in CONTEXT, that there are lessons to be learned from every part of the bible, but that concepts of metaphor and historical context must be incorporated in order derive meaning that coincides with all of our current understanding of science and history. The groups that read the bible literally are the fundamentalists such as Baptists, Christian Alliance, Pentacostals etc, those who read the bible in context are Catholics, Anglicans (Episcopalians), Presbyterians, United Church, Lutherans. All groups follow the bible, but with some key differences in approach.

Well there are a lot that follow tradition, but few really follow the Bible.

There is however one that I know of that use the Bible as there "only" Creed, that's the
Seventh-Day Adventist's, they are GREAT !

If you ask them a question they will open up the Bible with you and find your answer there and only there.

God Bless and
HAVE A HAPPY & SAFE NEW YEAR !

Tradition is the authentic work of the Holy Spirit, as demonstrated in the life of the universal church.

Without authentic tradition, no one can possibly know what the text of the Bible actually means.

The Catholic Church teaches that both scripture and authentic tradition should be given equal reverence.

Perhaps that's why the Catholic Church has been able to maintain one constant and unvarying set of core beliefs and practices, for the last 2000 years.

Okay, for the most part-Independant Fundamental baptists are the ones that like to take things in the Bible to the further extend of..well..overboard...(and most like the King James Version only) however...no matter how you slice it...they STILL LIKE TO PICK AND CHOOSE what they "preach" against, and what they don't. Baptist don't follow tradition, at least not the type that I am familiar with. And independant fundamental baptists do not believe that you have to believe ALL of the Bible. They will tell you, "You don't have to believe it! It happened and God is right and that settles it!" They are good people-but sometimes...they think that everyone is like them...or should be like them....and sometimes..they don't let people think for themselves...I used to be one of them...and now I think on my own..and yes, I like to pick and choose out of the bible too and yes, I don't read it enough. Many Christians ruin it for others by all of the finger pointing fruit inspectors! Jesus never commanded any of us to be fruit inspectors! Just a word to remember. You never have to do anything, you just have to live with and suffer the consequences....

It totally depends on what denomination you are. The evangelicals, fundamentalists, pentacostals and others believe every single word of the Bible is literally true. But many Protestant denominations believe that some Bible stories are parables or analogies or recountings of historical events and are not all to be taken literally. And the Catholics even have a different Bible than the Protestants!

To answer your question, we must understand what you mean by "believe."

If believe means thinking that every part of the Bible is literal fact, and that it is more or less the words of God, then I would say, as a Christian, that I do not believe all of The Bible.

If believe means thinking that the Bible is true, metaphorically and spiritually, but not necessarily literally, than I would say yes, I believe all of it.

Clearly there is much disagreement among Christians regarding this subject. I, as well as many Christians, believe the Bible is NOT the Word of God, but rather Christian men of the 1st century's response to what they believed was true about God.

The Bible is not perfect, because it was written by men. It can, however, help us connect with the perfect, loving God, who Jesus committed himself so beautifully to throughout his life.
