to build muscle, you want high mass low reps, to tone you want low mass high reps, thats the basic guidline. you probably just want to eat right, and do low mass high reps, and more cardio than weights, because you gain weight when building muscle mass, but you'll lose more weight doing cardio excercise.

Sorry, lifting weights won't help you lose weight, infact, you'll gain weight in muscle mass. If you really wnat to move down to 190 try running and aerobics, lifting weights only grows muscle, it does not substantially use fat. If you were to do a combination of both you may lose weight and gain muscle, but there are no guarentees. If you have small muscle mass you should start out with small weights and gradually move up to the heavier stuff as you get stronger.

It really doesn't matter if you are 190lb or 210lb, don't focus on weight so much, just worry about your body fat percentage and the amount of muscle you are building. What you initially probably want to do is gain some muscle mass before you start to lose body fat. It is then a case of maintaining your muscle mass until you have reached your fat loss goal and then continue to build muscle.
As for the weights, you will increase the amount of weight you lift as you continue to gain muscle mass. You won't lose weight by lifting, but you'll body fat percentage will continue to reduce.
HTH : )

First, being a guy it's easier to build muscle, but I think you also
want to lose Fat, right?
Watch the amount of starch you eat, example, if you had 4 slices of bread for breakfast, don't have a sandwich or burger or pizza or sub or a large plate of spaghetti for lunch.
Have vegetable raw, like a salad, or cooked vegetables with your protein, beef, pork, chicken fish or eggs also cheese.
If you build enough muscle, you could weigh more, but it's what you lose in inches that counts.
If you don't have a set of Weights or Gym system, start by doing
Pushups on the Floor for Arms, shoulders, chest and back.
Do 10 to 15 reps x 3 sets.
For Legs, do Squats and Lunges.
For Abdominals, do sit ups.
Then stretch gently.
You can warm up a little by jumping or running in place. for 5-10min
As for those Body builders with huge arms etc, they use steriods etc.
If you start with too heavy weights, if you've never used them before, you could injure yourself.
I think a Gym system with pulley type would be less likely for injury.

Your question doesn't have any merit . Light weight more repetitions gives you definition/tone .Heavier weights builds muscle mass along with diet etc. If you want to LOSE weight I don't know your percentage of body fat you'd have to take that in account , why would you want to lose muscle , what was the purpose of lifting weights in the first place .So if it's body fat you want to lose do more of cardio work out less lifting of heavy weights eat less fattening foods.

You want to build muscles? High protein diet. Low carb, not no carb, not really low carb, just keep the carbs moderate. Eat good protein, eggs, meat.
Start with low weight and work you way up. Increase your number of reps.
Wok out fast to loose weight and slow to build muscles. If you increase protein, reduce carbs, increase exercise, and lift weights your fat should slowly ,melt off to reveal muscles under neath!

Multiple repetitions with lighter weights will generally tone without bulking. If you want to lose weight and tone up, you need to burn more calories through aerobic activities and work out with lighter weight and more repetition. Consult a doctor or other fitness professional before engaging in any strenuous aerobic activities.

...you're trying to LOSE weight, not GAIN WEIGHT LOL and no, that whole thing about big and small weights, COMPLETE BS. how about you try eating right and LOSING weight, THEN trying to build muscle mass. Because that's essentially what you're saying you want to do. it's not physically possible to build muscle mass and lose weight, unless you're burning fat. it's just not possible.

Buy 100% Whey by Optimum Nutrition. 24g of protein per scoop. I think 1g of fat. Pretty good stuff. This will definently help to get you daily protein. Plus they have great flavors! (Chocolate, Double Chocolate, Vanilla, Banana, Cookies & Cream, EXTREME Chocolate, Strawberry)... Those are from the top of my head. There are more! Good luck with the lifting BTW. Drink it within 1 hr after working out. :D
