The answer above is correct...it stands for Temporomandibular Joint. TMD is what it is called when you have a problem with your TMJ (D for dysfunction). Symptoms of TMD would be a popping or clicking sound upon opening or chewing, earaches, headaches, and sore facial muscles. There are many things that can cause TMD...among them are occlusion problems (how your upper and lower teeth fit together) and stress. Sometimes TMD can resolve itself...especially if it is caused by stress. You should see your dentist for a consult.

TMJ stands for trans mandibular joint. It is your jaw joints. One thing it can do, being a joint, is become dislocated. This is called TMJ syndrome.
