I love the scent of 'Apples and Cinnamon' I made 3 lbs of wax into candles for christmas, I added alot of cinnomon oil (a whole ounce) plus numerous melt ins for added scent. I was disapointed by the scent they produced when lit.. like none. But to smell the candle it'self was delightful. Any tips on what I could do to produce a better burning scent? use products that are designed for candles. simply adding more of the melt in scent that you can buy at any craft store will produce a stronger scent.

essincial oils are (usually) not intended to be burnt but heated for the scent. they may become a fire hazard when placed in differant types of wax. and can impede the burning of the candle.

safety note,

Never heat your wax over an open flame.

always use an electric heating element and always use a double boiler.

never sit the melting pot directaly on top of the element. and make sure that your wax stays below 225 degrees F. at 225 the wax begins to vaporize and can cause a flash fire (explosion)

the double bioler will keep the wax from getting above 212, but 180 is usually hot enough to melt your wax.

a high content of steric acid (sterene) will raise this temp and make your candle burn slower. and cause a shinier surface.

I use scented candles. My very favorite one is Fresh White Musk Fantasy from Parfums de couer. It smells great! Once it burns down, I put it in my candle warmer and the scent continues to fill the room In the bathroom I pour a little bit of Fabuloso or Mistolin cleaner in the bowl. It keeps the room smelling fresh until it's flushed. Just pour in a little more after the flush to keep the pretty scent.

Usually you would add 1 oz of fragrance for 1 pound of wax, unless the oil had some other instructions. So maybe you just didn't use enough?

Another important issue to let the candle "cure". You need after the candle is made, to let the fragrance bind with the wax. You can read about it here:
