I think we limit God when we ascribe human weaknesses onto him like jealousy or anger. These are human weaknesses. He is God.

To me, it's ludicrous to ascribe to God a human weakness like jealousy.

"I don't want you worshipping any other Gods now, ya hear? . . . And if you do, I'm gonna get really upset and cast you into a lake of fire."

This sounds more like a kid saying that he's gonna hold his breath if he doesn't get want he wants. It doesn't sound like anything the creator of everything that exists would say.

You've made a very important point. The problem with trying to understand about something beyond this existence is that even if we did know something, words could not describe whatever that is. Words are too limited. It is said that God is everywhere, but what does that mean? Everywhere in this universe? When one describes God as the Father, that is only a convenient way to describe something which really has no meaning in human language.

People have tried to describe God using words like jealous, wrathful, loving or other adjectives which describe something here in this existence but which have no meaning when discussing something outside it. This is often why Christianity (or any religion for that matter) often sounds illogical or silly.

I believe its all a matter of understanding from the proper viewpoint.

Think of it this way, God is a landlord and you are the tenant wanting to rent a house from Him. Now, when you enter into a contract with Him, He expect you to pay the rent to Him. When you dont and pay your rent to another landlord, then God becomes a Jealous God.

That was the whole point of the Ten commandments. They were more than just unique commandments to follow, but terms of a covenant (contract) between Him and the children of Israel.
(ref Exo 34:28 So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.)

So when people say that they worship God alone yet they turn their worship, love and affection to other gods or call others by their name, God become Jealous. If one doesn't enter into a covneant with God, then He wouldn't be a Jealous God to that person.

The bible gives specific examples; see Exodus 34:14
Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Exodus 34:13-15 (in Context)

Isaiah 30:9 These are rebellious people, deceitful children,
children unwilling to listen to the LORD's instruction.

or Nahum 1:2 - Nahum 1:1-3
[ The Lord 's Anger Against Nineveh ] The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD takes vengeance and is filled with wrath. The LORD takes vengeance on his foes and maintains his wrath against his enemies.

Deuteronomy 6:15
for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

God is the same today, tomorow and forever, Daniel 10: 21 but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth.

Hebrews 4: 12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Actually, many view it as a paradox when it is claimed that God is angry, or wrathful, or anything of the sort, because becoming angry or jealous implies a change of state from not angry at someone to angry at someone. And a change of state implies a temporal existance, and nothing within a temporal existance can continue to exist infinitely... So yeah, it's rather limiting.

Why is God assumed to be offended, jealous, vengeful? My teenage son and daughters as quickly as concept that i became offended, jealous, and vengeful till they grew up and matured. in line with risk you will desire to do a similar. you probably did not wisely quote the transitive regulation so as that throws out your premise. good judgment dictates which you formulate a miles extra helpful premise than what you trotted out in this question.

That just goes to show how much you know. It says in the Bible that He is a jealous God. When you start worshipping idols. Read about Aaron and how he made a golden calf to worship. God was not happy.

God expects us to worship and serve him by our actions, thoughts, and words, He created us, gave us the gift of life, and blesses us with positive things thruout our entire life, He expects us to live in a morally upright way and recognize that He is the only supreme being in the universe.

Old Testament God was angry, jealous and generally grumpy and bloody minded. Then he went to anger management classes. These days New Testament God is love. It was a remarkable transformation.

jealousy and anger are not human weaknesses- they are valid emotions with good purpose- what is weakness is how people react and respond when having these emotions- there is a mature and Godly way to deal with things and there is a childish, selfish bratty way to deal with them.
God is not selfish and childish.
God created us for fellowship with Him and it is right for Him to want us to seek after Him and seek after the truth and not after vain, unstable or harmful things- it is right for Him to be angry when He has given us His instruction and He watches us suffer and cause suffering because we refuse to follow His way.
