I realize this is a difficult question because you can't see the statue I'm referring to.
I would like any help in identifying the god in this statue.
The statue has 5 cobras at the base and the god is holding another cobra by the neck.
I was wondering if this statue is of Krishna, but I have no idea.

If anyone knows of the symbolism of the five cobras at the base and the one in the gods hand, that would be interesting as well.

Yep. Krishna.

There's just one snake with five heads (according to the story) -- he kills it.
Okay the answerer next to me got the snake's name right. (oops! I can't be trusted for details-- or for that matter anything else ;) )

For symbolism -- why is our lady of faith often shown standing over a snake? (Or so I've read) Same answer.

Cobra around neck - Lord shiva.
5 cobra base can be for Lord vishnu or Lord shiva. If you see a cobra around the neck, then its defnitetly Lord Shiva's statue.
Snake around the belly - Lord Ganesha.
Cobra at the feet ( on ground ) - Lord Muruga.

Any how the statues are for beginners, to focus on, and in latter stages you may not need these statues.

Hmmm, perhaps it is Krishna subduing the serpent Kaliya.
Does it look anything like this? --

Here is a page telling the story of Krishna and Kaliya:

Must be one of the many Hindu gods. Maybe the god of cobras.

Lord ganesh has snake, lord shiva has snake.
I dont understand why you are bend upon identifying god. Hindus dont pray to god, because the god has number of snakes or crown on head, etc. Hindus see beyond what you see with mere eyes. Some times I pray to god, with my eyes closed, with just thought of god. When i go to temple, i dont close my eyes, but look at gods pleasant face, this helps me to concentrate.
