this is the church again , they leave out the bits that they do not want in.
Joesph was married to another woman and had two sons by her,
so as the story of god being Jesus 's father was the story that Joesph told his wife , she believe Joseph, so that is how the story got started. his wife would rather her that, than hear that her husband Joesph was unfaithful to her , but some one is going to say this is wrong , but they can not prove it did not happen , as i can not prove it did

He was conceived out of wedlock, but it's generally accepted that Mary and Joseph were married when he was actually born... And as the stigma happened because it was an indication that the woman had been having sex outside of a married life, and Jesus was an acception to the baby=having sex rule in their minds, it still makes sense, regardless of being stupid.

If you remember Jesus was the immaculate conception. Mary was a virgin and didn't have sex with Joseph.
Society are the ones who have in the past and recently stigmatized women if they have kids out of wedlock.

Religion and virgin births aside.
In most societies children born out of wedlock can be a burdon for the society not just the parent(s).
Most countries offer some sort of social welfare or benefit to sigle parents and try and supliment it with draconian child support legislation.
In early civilizations without welfare an unwed mother could put a real strain on the society , particulaly in regard to nomadic people,.
essentially in these societies you either worked or were supported if you wanted to eat, without support quite often the rest of the tribe has to work to support an adult and a child with little or no return. In desert tribes that could spell disaster.
I am not going to go there about JC being illigitamate, it just gets the fundies in a tizz , fun though that may be. i just dont have the energy today.

It's because the early Catholic church put a huge stigma on sex all around. They even didn't allow marriage in the beginning, but had to change that rule when couples continued to get together! It's all about control. The Church wanted to control every aspect of their followers lives. Modern day Christians still want that.
I do have to agree (eek!) that Jesus wasn't technically born out of wedlock. Mary had wed Joseph by the time Jesus was born. Apparently this is all fine with Christianity. Ever hear of "Shotgun Weddings"?

Jesus was not born as a result of intercourse. He was born through Mary being blessed by the Holy Spirit to give birth to Christ. Therefore, Jesus was not born out of wedlock.

Do you really think that women pregnant out of wedlock aren't stigmatized today?
You haven't visited many fundamentalist Christian churches lately.
I recall one sermon where the pastor told women that if they were raped, and didn't die, that they hadn't resisted enough. It was better to die than to allow the sex act of the perpetrator to occur. Even Augustine was more lenient than some of these creeps.

No, HE wasn't "born out of wedlock". HIS parents were married. HE was conceived out of wedlock. There is a difference! Have a great evening.
