It sounds infected. Try treating with peroxide or alcohol but if that doesn't help it she may have to take the stud out for it to heal and when healed get it repierced.

Wash it every couple of hours with quite hot and salty water -
Keep fingers away from it in between. If you can put some iodine on it after each bath that might help.

It is most likely an infection and you may end up having to take her to the doctors.

Clean the area with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, then apply a topical antibiotic cream such as Neosporin. Do this twice a day. If it doesn't show signs of improvement (less redness/less swelling) in 48 hours, take her to the doctor and have him prescribe systemic antibiotics for her.

you should go to your doctor or the people that got it pierced. your wife has an infection. the medicine will get it away and its nothing serious. it could be the earing or that the gun they used to pierce her ear was not sterile. check with what brand of earing it was. the gun should be sterilized so i wouldn't worry about that. you could double check with the manager to make sure. the medicine might sting when she puts it one her ear it will remain sensitive until it's heeled. i hope i helped!! tell your wife i had the same expierience and i hope she gets better.

It's infected. Don't know what you can do at home other than clean it well with alcohol several times a day and don't touch them without washing your hands first. If you are already doing that, she needs to see a Dr.
