A white terrier is really adorable and has a great attitude a personality but if you're a girlie girl maybe a Chihuahua is good for you when you want to show off you're pup in a handbag!

It depends on your preferences, really. A Westie is very active, loves people, doesn't shed much and makes a good watchdog. A chihuahua is smaller -- it has a tendency to be high-strung and rather possessive, although proper training early on should prevent that. I wouldn't recommend one if you have small children. Both dogs have a tendency to bark a lot. As an aside, purebreeds tend to be prone to more health issues than mixes...maybe if you can't decide, get a mix of both! It'll definitely be cheaper.

Well, I personally love Westies for their fun personalities, and I would never have a Chi because they are everywhere. Celebrities are turning Chis in to a fashion accessory, and plus I just do not like them all that much anyways.
The new trend is munchkin Chis, the tiniest Chis which weigh less than one pound. It is not a healthy breed nor is it a safe dog to have around. Too easy to squish!
Westies are energetic and bouncy, and they love to be with you!
If you want a dog to compete in dog sports, Westies are eager to run wild and please you.
Here is some more information on the two dogs:

I have a westie mix and a chi mix... both are wonderful dogs. The Chi is a doberman in a small body and the Westie just looks/acts like a puppy all the time.
The Chi wants to sit in your lap and can be snappy with another dog or cat that wants to share your space.
The Westie likes to cuddle too and especially likes to be groomed/brushed. She likes to play with the cats and the other dog and she is always finding something to chew up. She's mischevious but so cute you can't be mad at her.
I'm really not helping am I?! I love both my dogs... can't choose between them -- sorry.

Let them pick you! Approach each one and see how much affection they muster up to say hello to you. A lot of animals can see the connection or the bond between themselves and their owners.
Are you a match?

Find a local breeder of each kind and go to them with your questions and check out their dogs and/or puppies. Ask them the pros and cons of owning the breed and go from there. (Don't buy pups from petstores. They usually come from puppymills)

I like the Westies. They're pretty cool. Chis just aren't very much fun in my opinion. My folks raise and show them and they're afraid of their own shadows!!
