The USA has no authority in Canada we have our own laws that govern us . It is impossible to answer till you advise which country you are actually from and hold a passport for as it all depends on that . You may just need your country of origin passport . I would suggets you contact the canadian embassy or look on their website before travelling
By the way ...looking at the answers on these people are speaking about a few years ago neither canadians nor americans needed passpoert to travel back and forth . People who were not from these countries still needed passports back then ....and by the way the laws have changed as of 2007 both countries will need passports to get back and forth . once again everyone before you travel check the info on either the american or canadian websites the legal dates are all their

if you have a temporary status and the staus was giving to you from the USA and you want to enter Canada, you need a passport from the country that you were born to travel to canada. You can get online and see were the closes Embassy of your country is located. There you can get a passport from your country to travel. You will need your countries passport until you become a US citizen, then you can apply for a US passport. If you are here in a tempoary status and the status was giving to you from USA department of home land security, you need to apply for permission to travel out of the USA and the permission costs money. Most permissions are automatically denied and you will loose the money and time. The ones that are approved are for humanitary reasons such as a loved one who is extremely ill and the family doctor can fax a copy of the situation to your local immigration office fax machine. You must set this up beforehand so they will know the fax is from your loved ones doctor. It was before that you could travel to a border city with your id or licence but now you need 2 proofs of identification that has your name, such as your passport and your licence.----once you get all of that, you need to decide how long you are planning to visit canada...last i heard was if you are planning to stay there longer than 10 days you need a tourist visa from there side which you can get as soon as you cross the border and it costs money...note you are going to their country not as a USA citizen but as a citizen of your country, so make sure that your country has no limits in their country.

I would check with the Canadian embassy. Also, it might be a godo idea for you to also let the American embassy know that you'll be travelling to Canada and let them know when you plan to return so that you aren't denied re-entry into the states. I know of someone who went to Canada on vacation and couldn't get back because while he was gone, his student visa expired for some reason so before you travel, be sure to have all of your basis covered.

After 9/11, I think even US citizen will require passport to go Canada. It is depnds on your citizenship... go to Canada goverment website then it should have a list of which country that require visa... it depends on your citizen not your temporaty immigrant.

I didn't get that. Are you in the US or in NJ? You know it's not quite the same, don't you?

Seriously though, you are NOT US citizen and therefore you fall in the same category as any citizen from your own country. If you are required a visa or not will depend on your nationality and not on where you are living now.
