I'd laugh and remember to gift it back to them the following year.

Ouch... you see, I always regift gifts that I get from people at work to my sister. She never likes what I get her (and won't tell me to my face) so I don't even try anymore! However, I can't say that I have ever given her anything that she has given me. The only thing I can say is maybe the person forgot that you are the one who gave them the gift. BUT then again... from a few years ago?? I mean, was it used or are they just being cheap? Usually if you regift things, you should keep track of who gave you what!

This has happened to me several times from the same person that is very close. My daughter was really pissed off and maybe at first I was too. But after watching this person over a period of time, I believe they really don't remember. They are happy giving a gift to a loved one. As people get older they tend to forget things. So just be happy that ,that person is still with you on holidays and enjoy their happiness in giving you something. It really doesn't matter. Be happy and enjoy yourself. :)

I'd tell them on the spot that i gave the present to them a few years ago so they would feel stupid...but i'm assuming you're past that. Of course you feel almost disrespected but I'm sure they didn't mean to, so just get over it and just laugh!

I would feel a bit put off. I mean, if they return it, that's one thing, or even give it to someone else, but to return it to you and call it a gift says to me that they don't even remember you gave it to them.

OMGosh, I would feel terrible. They might forgot that YOU gave to them few years ago. I would feel upset n' angry @ the same time. But ... u can't really get angry at them, cause they're your relative.

if they are habitual re-gifters, then you should have expected it sooner or later.
as to a re-gifter giving you back the same gift, are you sure it is the exact one or was it that you both have the same likes and dislikes and they just happen to purchase something for you that you did for them?

As long as you are honest about it being a re-gift, then go for it!
