My husband and I are looking for a good reliable used car. Something that doesn't cost too much yet wont break down in a few months. For example: Chevy, Volkswagen, etc?

chevy impala is a great choice, full size and 31 mpg. parts and repairs are far less then any import. if cite and state officials use them you know they must be good. if you must have an import i would go with a camry...not as much room, power, the v6 gets worse mpg but they are a toyota. be careful however....repairs are $$$. resale is good on both, stay away from anything dodge, chrysler or ford.....no resale value, lots of problems, easy to steal. one of my cars is impala with 275,000 miles and i have no fear of driving it from fl to ma.....and home which i will do in a week!!!! Good luck

Taurus, grand prix etc. You can buy these late model year low mileage cars for cheap because rental companies buy these up and sell them off. There are a ton of them out there because of the high volume that rental companies use, which drives down the cost.

BUT

You want to buy the one that some other sucker bought new, NOT one from the rental yard that somebody did reverse donuts on dry ground (lots of fun). Buy one that somebody bought new and let them take the hit. Your best value will be buying from an individual through the paper or auto trader.

We bought a used Honda Accord a few years ago, and it has been a GREAT car. No major problems (knock on wood), and it's a 1995. I would definitely recommend Hondas! (FWIW, everyone I know who's owned Volkswagens has had trouble with the electrical system, so I'd steer clear of those if I were you.)

stick to an import honda accords and nissan altimas are very nice mid side cars with high saftey ratings and they will last you a very long time with out problem and if one does arise the service at the dealership is usualy cheap and you can get in and out with out incident. the dealership down the street from me even holds deals like $9.99 oil changes and tune ups

Definitely go for a Toyota -- my family's had them our whole lives, we've never had any big problems. Best bang for the buck.
