we call our planet earth because when humans first named the planet we (the human race) did not know there was more water than earth visible to the eye.
However it is stil called earth because under the water is the Earths crust. making up the earth we call home.
There is nothing else you could really call this little planet of our except screwed up by the human race. we always thinking we know what is best for the planet and other species of animals. Why do we get involved with other species? we should leave well alone and move our fellow human family members away from the dangers of wild animals.
sorry off on a bit of a tangent there. just a little bug bare of mine that if we truly as a species loved other animals we would not keep pets nor keep animals in zoos or safari parks. the best place for wild animals is in there natural habitat. (just my opinion)
getting back to the point of the question with the name of the planet it should be something like ocearth or seaworldor maybe oceanland perhaps. eitherway it does not change the fact that despite two thirds of the planet being under water the rocks and soil are why we call earth Earth.

As far as i recall from my school days (althogh geology and natural history i paid very little attention too back then 15+ years ago).

Man named the planet Earth. That is what is considered the solid mass of the planet. The ocean is on Earth. When we are on the ocean in a ship we are still on Earth. The ocean is the largest "water" part of planet Earth

Wherever you heard that two thirds of the planet is water - you misunderstood.

If that was true wouldn't all the land masses sink to the bottom? You mean two thirds of the surface - considering how massive the Earth is, the amount of water on the surface is pretty tiny. It's not even enough to give it a uniform surface is it? Its just a couple of shallow puddles called Oceans.

How do you clarify it? Goddidit. There, we could use that as an answer to each unexplainable phenomenon and while a found out guy or woman who has spent a protracted time of formal training and a protracted time greater gaining knowledge of a particular phenomenon comes alongside and tells us it wasn't god who did it. we are going to shout goddidit even louder so we can't hear his logical rationalization. yet i'm going to respond to you besides: a million) you're assuming existence could desire to no longer have adapted in any respect to greater healthful the circumstances you stated. properly you likely don't have faith evolution so this rationalization is moot. 2) we are rotating simply by fact of gravity. We revolve around the solar simply by fact of gravity. What do you mean acceptable distance? that's an elliptical orbit. we are consistently at a various distance. 3) i'm uncertain you recognize what tides are. The moon for sure pulls ocean waters directly to land. 4) features could be defined with chemistry and is a twist of fate that water is so considerable. 5) What do you mean water is chemically independent? while mixed with sodium it explodes. Or the different alkali metallic. 6) floor tension is led to by utilising hydrogen bonds. It has no longer something to do with floating except you're making a paperclip or penny glide. Floating has to do with density. 7) Ice types on the acceptable because's way less dense than water. 8) you'll be joking.

ha ha ha ha ha ha.................. silly question to deal with.
hey buddy, do you know about 90% of your body consist of water. It is scientifically proven. Anyway, you don't liked to be called an ocean, river, lake, pond or any kind of water resevoire. will you? so let the beautifull planet of ours be called "earth" rather than ocean.

two thirds of the 'surface' of Earth is covered with water. If you go deeper into Earth, it is still Earth.

Well then , if we did that, we might have to come up with a new name for humans seeing that our bodies are about 75% water. Maybe aqua-men?
