The PS3 may be a great system, mostly because of the upgrades it has recived aka Blu-Ray.
But I wouldn't go out and buy it right away...
Reason being that their is a little war going on between Toshiba and Sony. Toshiba came out with the HD DVD type disc that can hold about 30 Gigabytes. Sony with their Blu-ray disc can hold about 50 Gigabytes.
The reason that the Blu Ray can hold so much is because the laser which reads the blu ray is..well...BLUE!!! Sony though it might be smart to make the traditional laser that reads disc blue and to make the blu ray disc only able to be read with a blue laser.
Another reason why they did this is because it will hold a lot more data.
Take the color spectrum for an example. EX. @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_spectrum
Look at the frequencies. Blue is the smaller color compared to red.
What does this mean you ask? Well, to sum it up, it means that the color blue can hold more data, when compared to red, our traditional laser color.
But the real reason not to go out and buy a PS3 right away is the fact the only one of the discs will win the war and the other will probably become obsolete.
And look at history. Anyone remember the Beta Max? The VCR?
Well, Sony's beta max lost against the VCR. Then the Beta Max became obsolete.
Does history repeat itself? I don't know...
Just save your money and go buy yourself a Wii, if you haven't already.

I am not buying a PS3 because there is a high chance that it will take 1-2 years before the system is error free just like the PS and PS2.

I heard there is a player that can play DVDs and blu-ray. Maybe it has two layers inside?

Blu-ray is going to win. Why? Because the tests so far show its very stable and its quality beats HD-DVD plus it can hold almost double the amount of data.

Even if blu-ray fails the PS3 will still make games for the Blu-ray that still good enough for me.

nicely 1st of all the range of sales on HD-DVD's & Blueray Discs are minor league compared to conventional DVD's so theres no declaring in the experience that they could even very last for sale considering now nobody owns a HDTV.so a procedures because the Xbox 360 vs PS3 question nicely I personal a PS3 and my bro has a 360 and he's despatched his Xbox to microsoft two times for upkeep not very reliable and in case your basically drawn to Halo 3 seem away because the newz is that Halo 3 places alot of pressure on the 360 equipment and human beings are beginning to sue because of there equipment breaking down so the 360 isnt the most reliable & sturdy. The PS3 you've video games like Ninja Gaiden,Granturismo 5 & God Of conflict 3 interior the close to destiny and it under no circumstances overheats,is extremely quiet and has a lot of helpful factors.i ought to bypass on & on yet i imagine you get the point.PS3 all the way.

Just like the guy said, wait a year or two and you can get a player that can play both formats just like dvd-r and dvd+r.
