The PS3 may be a great system, mostly because of the upgrades it has recived aka Blu-Ray.
But I wouldn't go out and buy it right away...
Reason being that their is a little war going on between Toshiba and Sony. Toshiba came out with the HD DVD type disc that can hold about 30 Gigabytes. Sony with their Blu-ray disc can hold about 50 Gigabytes.
The reason that the Blu Ray can hold so much is because the laser which reads the blu ray is..well...BLUE!!! Sony though it might be smart to make the traditional laser that reads disc blue and to make the blu ray disc only able to be read with a blue laser.
Another reason why they did this is because it will hold a lot more data.
Take the color spectrum for an example. EX. @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_spectrum
Look at the frequencies. Blue is the smaller color compared to red.
What does this mean you ask? Well, to sum it up, it means that the color blue can hold more data, when compared to red, our traditional laser color.
But the real reason not to go out and buy a PS3 right away is the fact the only one of the discs will win the war and the other will probably become obsolete.
And look at history. Anyone remember the Beta Max? The VCR?
Well, Sony's beta max lost against the VCR. Then the Beta Max became obsolete.
Does history repeat itself? I don't know...
Just save your money and go buy yourself a Wii, if you haven't already.
