Pots and pans. Get a set that has a good sized saucepan for soup, a skillet and a bigger pan for cooking stuff like pasta. You may want to get two of each if you cook a lot or you get a lot of company.

Dishes. They don't have to be a matched up set if you're on a budget, but you should have enough for company.

Silverware.

Microwave.

Is it furnished? If it isn't you'll need furniture for your living room, your bedroom, etc. If you only have 1 bedroom you might want to make your sofa a sofabed so you'll have room for stayover company.

Cooking utensils, like spatula, slotted spoon, etc.

It all sounds like a lot but if you're a thrifty shopper you can find your dishes, silverware, glassware, and a lot more at the local Salvation Army or Goodwill.

If you live in a city, you can look on Craigslist.org, and find a lot of cool free stuff people give away.

There should be some second hand furniture stores if you look in the yellow pages. It's better to buy something that's well made second hand, then that cheap fiberboard Ikea stuff...and it's cheaper too. If you don't like the color you can paint it...also which you can't do with the cheap Ikea crap.

Go browse in Ikea, you'll get some great ideas for furniture that has multi uses, its affordable, and modern clean lines.
Just a side note, you CAN paint Ikea stuff, it will need a coat of a paint like that used to seal melamine or laminex to make it paintable.
If your'e into old worlde, browse garage sales, and second hand shops, (my favourite thing to do), you can get great stuff, that can be stripped down and redone, if its not a "hidden" valuable antique, you can even go funky, then toss out when its served its purpose.
Have fun, if finances are not really good, a bed, and huge floor cushions is about all you need, Oh, and a fridge, to keep the beer cold!!!!

Salt, peper and favorite spice (oregano, garlic powder etc)
