This is my boss, to whom I fell out of her grace. She gave me three hangers that her husband didn't want

First, I applaud you for wanting to thank her in the first place. Good job.

I'd write a nice note that says something like "Thank you for the hangers. I will put them to good use."

Short and sweet. :)

Oh, my. It is a bit hostile to give used clothes hangers for Christmas. However, because this is your boss, it's incumbent upon you to respond in a polite and professional manner. Let me guess: she's done other boneheaded things. Don't take it personally -- she sounds like a very unpleasant person.

You don't have to go over the top and gush about the used hangers. Just write a short note that says, "Thank you for the hangers. I appreciate your thinking of me. Sincerely." And while you're at it, maybe look for another job where you'll be valued and respected? Good luck!

I once received three hangers (decorative) and never used them. They are still in my closet and I plan to donate them.

Since it is your boss, you must be polite...take the high road. If you've already politely thanked her, keep mum and simply move on. If you want to give her a "zinger", send her a thank you card. She will certainly be puzzled by your response. No use in creating long-lasting friction, after all you still have to work for this creep.

This certainly though is making a statement about your creepy and immature boss. I'm wondering how this person was able to come into power with such immaturity.

I would say that the most gracious thing would be to thank her for thinking of you or for the "gesture." Don't even address what the gift was. Just thank her for giving you a gift, period.

I would make it short and sweet, as others have suggested. No need to gush over what was kind of a rude gift in the first place. But you can be the bigger person.

tell her that was the best gift you ever got (even thoguh it wasn't), and that you will make great use of it, in fact u put your favourite clothes on it and hung it up on your closet. maybe you can make up a lie and tell her it saved you a trip to the store to go buy hangers because you were missing some.....

Practice your acting abilities. I had one boss give me a pencil eraser and another gave me a re-gifted candle.

Send the most ostentatious thank you card you can find. Write a note in it gushing over her generosity. Then, let it slide.

Don't say anything... She should know better.

If she asks you about the hangers. Look at her and say, 'It's hangers, what the hell do you expect"?

I agree with gypzndog- be the bigger person, don't perpetuate a grudge between the two of you- be sweet and sincere and dont let this be an offense to you.

Ugh, she doesn't deserve a thank you, I think she was sending you a message like you don't count. Get her a bottle of mouthwash and leave it on her desk - make it used.
