Statistically no more child sexual abuse happened in the Catholic Church then in any other religion or institutional organization.

SO this question should be Why are so many young children being sexually mistreated everywhere.

Reason: Silence and Secrecy! Silence of victims, silence of people that know because of stigma and fear so it must be kept secret. This must be broken. It must be safe to tell!!!!

The Catholic Church made a horrible mistake in trying to cover it (most institutions do though). But they are at least now admitting and attempting some healing.

I think continued bashing on what is already out in the open helps no one heal instead we should concentrate on finding the ones that are still living in silence and secrecy and help them.

Celibacy and Homosexuality have nothing to do with Pedophilia. IF it did you would not see Pedophilia among the lay population that can have sex whenever they want (and it is there at the same rate). Also Pedophiles are overwhelming heterosexuals, the homosexual community has a much smaller percentage of their population that are Pedophiles.

Finally in using this to just make jokes and bash people as the question might be considered and some do with thier answers only revictimizes people making light of what happened to them and the pain they feel by turning the situation into a joke.

This is not occurring in Catholicism any more frequently than anywhere else. The only thing different about cases involving Catholic priests is that every case anywhere in the country makes the front page of every newspaper in the country. Similar cases involving Protestant ministers and Jewish rabbis don't receive half the coverage, while cases involving scout leaders, youth ministers, uncles, grandfathers, coaches, guidance counselors, and the largest group of molestors of all - teachers - receive only local coverage, or none at all. You have been successfully brainwashed by the secular media, as part of their anti-Catholic agenda.

Obviously such crimes, when they are committed by priests, have nothing to do with priestly celibacy because ...
(1) The largest group of pedophiles are married men
(2) Tens of thousands of other priests (over 98%) are also celibate but have no such problems
(3) The few priests who have committed such crimes have almost exclusively molested adolescent boys, which means they are not true pedophiles, but simply homosexuals, who would not marry even if allowed to.

It's not just Catholics, a lot of pastors, reverends, ministers and other religous leaders do it. They figured if they can brainwash
you in beliving what they preach, they can molest you as well. Many "followers" get abused sexually, but only a few come forward with it. The manipulation is so intense that they some times feel they are not victims.

It happens, very rarely I might add (considering how many priests there are) and in every religion. Just so happens, since there are bad apples in every group/institution, there may be more statistically in Catholics as there are so many more Catholics than other Christian religions. Because for centuries the catholic church has been the one safe haven in which pedophiles could indulge themselves with impunity.Until recently, catholic priests were held in such high regard that accusations of impropriety were handled by the parents severely punishing their child for allowing the devil into their lives and causing them to make up 'wild' stories. For hundreds of years the logical thing for a pedophile to do was feign a belief in god and learn whatever he had to learn to officially become a priest. This gave him a relatively easy job for life and the ability to practice his one true passion without fear of repercussion.
