I want to get a perm its been over 7 months now but I had to wait until my hair reached a certain level of longenest so it would not look like I had really short hair. But today, I'm ready to have one but I found out that I can't because I coloured my hair myself at home!!I'm so sad, I only done it one time! Is it really true! Does a special product or perm exists that I could use so that I would still get a perm!?
Thanks..!:)

It depends on what you used to color your hair with. Some 'at home" colors are made with metallic dyes that once you apply a perm on will LITERALLY melt your hair.

Metallic hair dyes for example are : Garnier, Ferria (they are the major culprits, but loreal does make a home color that is safe.)

Hello there. There's no need to feel sad there is no rule that says that you can't have a perm if you dye your hair at home. I myself have had a perm and dyed my hair at home before it and it worked perfectly well!! Don't distress take the plunge and go for it! X

Hello there, I'm a hairdresser and i often perm coloured hair. I wouldn't recommend that you perm on bleached hair or high lift blonded hair. I would recommend that a hairdresser perms it for you then she can advise you on the best aftercare.. (also ask her to perm your hair on large rods) as to small a rod may cause slight frizziness..

There is no rule that says you can't but it can change the colour of your hair especially if you use ash tones in blond hair it can make your hair turn a shade of green
