Usually not. It's extremely rare for 1 association to recognize rank from another. Usually just McDojos do that.

it's possible, the instructor should honor it (that's the fair way to do it, but there are some instructors that will be a punk about it and not allow you to keep it) the instructor should at least evaluate your experience and place you within the new school or organization based on your experience.
but it's more likely that you'll start out in a lower rank (but it'll prob'ly be close to your Dan ranking.), especially if it's another discipline entirely.
all you can do is ask the instructor or the president of the local branch of the organization.

Do not put any emphasis on rank. It is simply used to organize a school internally. Find a school you like and train there. Do not let rank and paperwork get in the way.
On the same note do not be scared to put a white belt on and begin again. It can be quite an educational experience sometimes it is down right comical.
Rank has no true meaning.

Talk to your new instructor - expect a luke warm reception and be reading to show what you have already learnt. Have heard of this happening before but some poaching of black belts was going on there. Good luck

I would be really surprised if you could- usually all you get is the advantage and experience of another style. Good luck though.

its on a case to case basis. i spent 7 years training in Isshinryu with Mike Reeves and then went to train with Calvin Thomas and was allowed to wear my black belt out of respect. i am not sure if you would be able to with anything other than a black belt
