The number 7 is God's number for perfection. The number 6 is for man, not Satan. It is not the MARK of the beast that is 666, but rather the NUMBER OF HIS NAME. And it isn't three 6's, but rather a sum of Six hundred sixty six. God has spoken the word that this will be the sum of 666 - and it is an indicator also of an unholy trinity - Satan, the beast, and the false prophet. If you do a google search for unholy trinity, you will see that we have had MANY already - the best example being the Vatican (the seat of the antichrist), Hitler, and the Swiss Banks. But this was only an hors-d'voeur - the tribulation period under the control of the beast will be a full serving.
Hebrew letters each have a numerical value. The first 10 letters of the Hebrew alephbet graduate in degrees by ONE. For example, the letter aleph =1, bet = 2, and gimel = 3. The next nine letters graduate in TENS, and the remaining three graduate in HUNDREDS. Therefore the beast's name, when transliterated into Hebrew, will have letters which have a sum total numerical value of six hundred and sixty-six. This is why the bible tells us in Revelation 13:18:
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding COUNT the number of the beast: for it is the number of A man; and HIS number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six.
God gives different gifts and callings to people. Rest assured he has people he's gifted with both spiritual discernment and watchfulness, as well as with a strong command of the Hebrew language. These are the people who will literally be watching the prophetic events unfold, observing the "players" and COUNTING the number of their names.
This is a great question you've posed. So many people are curious to know about the 666 thing. I hope this has answered your question fully. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like additional info. God bless you, and Shalom.

It isn't.. it is the Mark of the Beast spoken of in Revelation 13.
Rev 13:16 - 18 (KJV) And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
The Beast is also known as the Antichrist. A person who will come to power by Satan and ultimately will be indwelt by Satan. This will take place during the 7year tribulation period spoken of in the new and old testament of the Bible.

It isn't the mark of satan. The number 6 represents humanity - 666 is the number of man. The numbers 600, 20, 20, 20, and 6 add up to the name of Caesar Nero. John used this code to convey his opinions about Domition, who was viewed as a second Nero by many Christians in Asia Minor. The "Mark" is not literal - it was meant to contrast the mark of God in foreheads of Christians. In ancient Roman society, a mark (tattoo) was used to identify slaves. Those with the mark of man serve themselves, while those with the mark of God serve God.

Nonsense from the book of revelations.
In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Revelation 13:18 - "This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."
The beast being the Antichrist/Satan, I think this is where the idea originated.

gThe number of man is 6. He was born on the 6th day of creation. Things in threes mean God or like god. So the number of the beast 666 is the number of man being like god (not to be confused with God).
Take it as you wish....it is just menial information.

7 is the number of perfection according to the Bible, 6 is less than 7 and less than perfect. Satan always thought that he was more perfect than God.
