I have done significant research on hypoallergenic dogs. In my research, I have discovered that hypoallergenic dog breeds are good allergy sufferers (unless, of course, the sufferer is allergic to dogs making even hypoallergenic dogs not "completely hypoallergenic.") This is because they're coats produce less shedding and dander. Am I correct?

This remains an ongoing argument. I don't care what anyone says, there ARE certain breeds that DO NOT SHED AND HAVE ALMOST ZERO DANDER, IF ANY!!
I have Maltese dogs. They do not shed, not one tiny, little bit. I have people that are totally allergic that can bury their faces in my dog's fur and they are fine.

The Maltese does not have an undercoat of fur that most dogs have. Their fur is more like human hair because of that and they do not have dander.

Since I have not had any other dogs that are supposed to be hypoallergenic, I can't say that about any other breed.

You are not correct.

Hypoallergenic means LESS ALLERGIC,.. not ALLERGY(Allergen) FREE.

It is not always the hair/fur and dander people are allergic to. Alot of people make this mistake with domestic animals. They assume the hairless are THE BEST breed for Allergy Sufferers because they HAVE TO BE Hypoallergenic since they lack the HAIR/FUR people are allergic to.

It is usually the animal as a whole a person is allergic to,.. it is hard to explain. It's often Saliva,.. blood,.. fluids,.. skin,.. etc. So when people try the Hairless/Furless they end up with the worst for allergy sufferers because the pets need oily skin.

Hypoallergenic Cats and Dogs are less likely to cause allergies or they lack something, like certain proteins produced by the body, that are what people with allergies react to.

So it's usually the Proteins that just happen to get all over from licking and things part of everything physical about the animal includeing but not limited to hair/fur and dander. Thius means even their bones, blood, and breath people with allergies can have a reaction to.

Things depend on both the Human and the Animal. You need a combo of a lack of allergen the human reacts to and a breed that is lacking that allergen often,.. and an animal that of that breed is one of those lacking that allergen.

Sorry...there is absolutely no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. All dogs have dander, and all dogs shed, even if just a little bit. Pillows can be made hypoallergenic, but dogs cannot come without their coats.
To anyone who tells you a dog is hypoallergenic, including designer mutt breeders, they are ignorant and simply choosing to believe a lie so they can feel better about the wreckless breeding practices they commit.
And anyone who owns a designer dog will claim their dog is hypoallergenic so they can feel better about owning one, which they know is wrong.
Poodles, schnauzers, maltese, any dog with wire-hair, any dog with hair instead of fur, can be said to be great dogs for allergy-sufferers, be it an allergy to hair or dander.

I am very allergic to dogs, but have had great success with a Bichon Frise. We almost never find any of her hair around the house and I have no allergic response at all. Bichons are also very sweet dogs. We call our Bichon "auto dog" (well, her real name is Peanut), because she is free fed and had her own access to the outside. Very low maintenance except for going to the groomers every 2-3 months. Very smart dog, comes up with all types of games and keeps herself occupied when we're not home. Not destructive at all, loves to cuddle but does bark a lot when someone comes to the door. Good luck!

Yes, great dogs would be sort of like the the French Bouvier (sorry for my spelling!) they are alot of money and are big dogs. My b/f has one. He's a sweetheart.
Most dogs that are hypoallergenic are those whose coats that do keep in moisture (Dry skin, or dandruff is caused by not enough moisture in the skin. And the skin cells die, and build up then flake.)
Most dogs wouldn't be so bad for people with allerigies if they were bathed more often. When you wash a dog with dandruff or dry skin, use a oatmeal shampoo (or oatmeal with aloe) it helps alot with containing moisture in the skin.
hope that helps!

The term "hypoallergenic" dog does not exsist. Some dog are LESS allergenic than others. Some people are allergic to ANY dog. Some can be allergic to all the Poodles they have been around, but are NOT allergic to their friends Lab. It really is dependant on the specific DOG, not the breed. Dander is produced by ALL dogs, and ALL dogs shed.

OK...if some dogs have HAIR and therefore DO NOT SHED..according to some of these people....how can that be???? PEOPLE have hair. PEOPLE shed. We shed THOUSANDS of hairs A DAY!! SO DO DOGS!!! everything with hair or fur or skin HAS to shed it!! The hairless dogs HAVE dander!!!!! ALl dogs shed fur/hair, AND skin cells PEOPLE are allergic to that!!!!!! Get a CLUE people!!! You are still thiking that MYTHS are true!!!!

yes, some dogs do not shed and have hair, not fur. They need to be groomed and get hair cuts. Whether it's the regular maintenance schedule (frequent baths) or type of coat it seems to help cut down on allergy issues. We got a little cockapoo - he sheds less than I do, maybe a few hairs on the brush but that is it. People can say what they will about paying for a high-bred mutt, but I have to say this little Cockapoo is a dream when it comes to cleanliness and allegies.

If you are allergic to the dander you may still be allergic to some hypoallergenic dogs. I have a Bichonpoo who is hypoallergenic and people who are normally allergic have been near her and report no allergy problems.
