I did gift bags for my wedding. They had bottled water, snacks and brochures of local attractions in them.
The bags were plain but were tied with ribbon in my wedding colors.
It was cheap and much appreciated!

To have gift baskets professionally made and delivered to the hotel room is nice if you have lots of money to spend but certainly not necessary or would it be expected. I think that if they were hand made and left at the hotel for the guests when they check in it would be more personal and meaningful. A thank you note for them coming, a map of the area, directions to the wedding and possibly modes of transportation, maybe some fruit, chocolate, bottled water and perhaps a bottle of wine would be nice. It all depends on your budget. Have a great wedding and married life.

that is VERY NICE and would probably be very welcomed considering that the food in hotels can become quite costly. Before you do, check to see if the hotel has a free buffet.
SOme of the hotels have lots of fruit in the mornings as part of a free brunch. If the hotel where they are staying is one of them, it would be somewhat a waste of money. If you have acertained that this is not the case, SEND AWAY!
Having a guilt free snack would save them quite a bit of money over the course of three or four days and it is a very thoughtful gesture. Just dont make it too big as you dont want it to be wasted if they are traveling by plane they wont be able to take ANY OF that with them.
If the hotel already has the free breakfast, why not call and see if you could prepay for a meal at the hotel for them (that would probably even cost you less). Judging by your question, you are probably a very thoughtful person, whatever you decide to do, they will be happy to k now that you were thinking of them and took the time to do something nice .
THE WORLD NEEDS MORE OF YOU!

We did this. Instead of baskets, we got white canvas bags from a store (either Hobby Lobby or A C Moore). These cost less and the people thought they were more practical and useful. We tied the hands with ribbon of the color used in the wedding ceremony. We got most of the items from Sams Discount which helped keep the cost down. We also included a few special items for people with special needs (diabetics, people with allergies, etc.) Make sure to include a map from the motel to where the wedding will occur.

Good luck.

A great idea...you could even make some up yourself and leave them at the hotel for when they check in. A few snacks, a local map, a welcome letter written by you, a list of phone numbers of your family in town, also maybe a list of nearby good restaurants/local attractions/churches/where the closest drug store, convenient store or grocery is located. Also some traveling needs would be nice, travel sized toothpaste, q-tips, asprin, all the little things we forget to pack. And maybe something a little quirky and fun.

It's a great idea that I think most people would enjoy. Possibly a cheese, cracker, fruit basket maybe. Don't forget a nice bottle of wine or champagne!

I work for a flower shop. We have all kinds of "well to do" customers send their clients these gift baskets as a welcoming gift. They go over real well. Everybody loves them, especially if you specialize them. For example, One of our customers brought us a bottle of whiskey to include in our basket. The recipients love that stuff.
