I am an atheist, but I'm not "afraid" of anything. I simply don't believe the same things as a Christian does. That being said, I have the utmost respect for other peoples' beliefs no matter how much I may disagree and I feel that they should have the same respect for myself and my beliefs. I think that a lot of the atheists who "put down" Christianity feel that religion gets shoved down their throat a lot and that a lot of religious people push their beliefs on others...whether in school, government, or otherwise...and so those atheists in turn vocalize their non-belief of the Christian religion. I can understand why that would frustrate you, and I think those people should respect that you enjoy your faith. A lot of atheists just resent having religion pushed at them more than they actually resent the religion. It's hard to explain, but I hope my point of view helps out a little bit. :)

As an atheist I'm not afraid of religion or faith. It's simply that I don't believe there can be a god that created the world. Much less a god that guides you and tells you what's right or wrong. I believe humans can rely on themselves in this world.
Otherwise, you don't embrace Christianity just because you are afraid of something, do you?
I do, however, accept and admire those who genuinely embrace religion in the belief that their faith translates into something positive for humanity.

Well not god, obviously, since I don't believe he exists.
I'm very much afraid of spiders, especially white-tailled spiders. They scare the crap out of me.

As for accepting that 'alot' of people enjoy having faith, that's really not the issue. If an adult independently comes to the decision that a certain religion is true and decides to follow it privately that's great. But that's not how it works. People teach religion to their children as though it were fact, people legislate on religion, people fight over religion. The price we're all paying so you can enjoy faith is huge.
What about the junkie who stabs someone and takes their cash to pay for another fix? Can't you just accept that he enjoys taking drugs?

I am an atheist and I am not against Christianity or any other religion for that matter. I accept all religions and a person's personal belief. There is nothing wrong with anyone's belief as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. That is just my personal opinion.

There are people who try to ridicule religions. This is due to lack of understanding and they do not care feelings of others.

Perhaps it's because of all the self righteous Christians that inevitably come out of the woodwork only to challenge those who've chosen NOT to believe in religion.

I have a better question... Why is it that only atheists seem to get along with every other religion except Christianity?

Atheists don't fear anything. They come to be Atheists by virtue of a broad understanding of religion and science. They realize that christians are only christians because of ignorance, in that they don't have the same knowledge base . Christians who follow the same path in search of truth end up being Atheists. Atheists realize that ignorance is not a good long term investment for our world and their motives in trying to counter it are much more noble than people give them credit for.

What I am afraid of here is the level of bigotry from allegedly
atheist and allegedly Christian individuals. If you put people because of their beliefs then you are neither atheist or Christian you are just plain bigots and you believe in bigotry.

We are not afraid of anything. It;s you the Christian who has in her/his mind created a mythical horror you call God, and a mythical hell to torment you, as well as a mythical heaven from which your mythical God gurantees you will not enter.

We accept that you have faith and I personally am glad it helps you if it does, however in your zesty attempts in converting others to your religion you fail to note that atheists like muslims or christians have the same right of expression and conversion as you do.:):).

We worry about you. Serious> you are heading in the wrong direction and need some truth in your life.

Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.

Just reading the replies so far demonstrates my point.
