Everytime someone in your house says a bad word, they should have the same consequence. Otherwise, you are teaching your child that it is ok some of the time but not all of the time.

One of my grandsons lives in an environment where there are a lot of words I consider to be bad being said. I asked him something about two years ago when he was 4 and we were in a Super Walmart. He looked at me and said " hell yeah". I walked off. He ask me why and I told him that I didn't talk to children who said those kinds of words. He asked my why and IO said that they were bad words. His father and other set of grandparents think that d a m n, h e l l and various other words are not bad.

He has never again used a bad word with me even though it is fine at home and with his other grandparents.

Children copy what they hear, if mom and dad are swearing, they are going to copy the parents. If they hear bad words on tv, either turn the tv off, or change the channel to something more suitable for the kids. If it's in the music your listening to, change the music that you listen to so it's something that doesn't have naughty words in it.

ummm stop using them yourself for one thing.
Next, discuss the problem with him (not nag, not confron, not yell) Tell him that that sort of language isn't always appropriate in mixed company. My cousin "fixed" the problem with her boys by telling them that when they were "hanging out" with their friends they could use that kind of lanugage but when they were among "polite" society, adults, shopkeepers etc they were to use respectable appropriate language. Cursing is sort of a "rite of passage". It makes them feel like "Men" LOL. Making a major issue of it will only give it the attention it doesn't really deserve and make it all the more desireable to do to them.

get rid of the source, put them in time out everytime they use the bad word or phrase, give them a light tap on their hand and say "no" if they know it's bad, they won't keep saying it if they know they will get punished for it.

Well, your child didn't make them up. Eliminate the source. Children repeat only what they hear.
If your child is school age, Dove tastes like crap.

First, give him/her a nice, calm talk. if he/she rebels, then do things unfairly: you and the family eats a treat for dinner, he/ she hets something gross.

Also, watch what tv programs he/she is watching. This can be very influential.

Invite his/ her best friend over. Eavesdrop and see if it is the friend that is teaching him/her this fowl language.

And finally, watch yourself. He/ she moight be learning it from you.
