There are a lot of Christians who see their faith as an attempt to find God, not as a definition of God.

And there are Christians who believe that they are not qualified to diagnose other people as hell bent or saved.

Well, if you had really looked into christianity and really, fully understood it, then you would have found that it is not an "organized" religion. We christians believe that God sent his son, Jesus, down to earth to die for us. We read the bible, pray, and live life according to the bible. Many people think that when people pray, you have to do it at a certain time, or you have to go to some kind of holy place, or else "God will punish you" This is not true. You can pray whenever you want. Think of him as a family relative, and even then you sometimes can't reach them as often as you like. God is always there, though, and I bet that if you truly believe, you will go to heaven. No one is " damned" to hell. God gives everyone endless chances to change their lives. Read the bible, start going to church weekly, and through the power of God, you will truly understand and change your life. It's not a burden, christianity, it's your choice. If you are a true christian, you will be happy. There will be troubles, but God will take you through it. Go to church and you will understand why christians are happy. God Bless!

Most religious organizations have produced bad fruitage. Its not the fact that groups are organized that is bad. But many have promoted forms of worship that are based on false teachings and are largely ritualistic instead of providing genuine spiritual guidance they have been misused to control the lives of people for selfish objectives they have been overly concerned with money collections and ornate houses of worship instead of spiritual values their members are often hypocritical. Obviously no one who loves righteousness would want to belong to such an organization but true religion is a refreshing contrast to all of that Never the less to fulfill the Bibles requirements it must be organized.
Heb. 10:24,25
Let us consider one another to incite to love and fine words not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together as some have the custom but encouraging one another and all the more so as you behold the day drawing near

To carry out this Scriptural command there must be christian meetings that we can attend on a consistent basis
Such an arrangement encourages us to express love toward others not only concern about self

AMEN sister or brother! I am a very spiritual/religious christian as well and believe my relationship with God is between me and God. Period. HE will be the one judging me at the pearly gates, not the hypocritical pastors/priests/ministers who sexually molest children, and their congregation of wife-beaters and infidels. I have participated in many different "organized' religions, was raised Catholic, and found my truest spiritual peace and understanding reading my Bible, praying to God and worshiping him in my own PRIVATE way. You do not need to ask anyone here if you will be damned to hell--that will be decided by God based on your actions and deeds.

You need to do your homework before judging organized religion. The 3 main religions of the world preach peace and love. You cant blame the religion for the acts of a small minority.

I would recommend that you continue searching. Continue to reject any "religious" teaching or practice that is not consistent with what your heart tells you God is all about.

It would be better to belong to no religion than to commit to one that teaches exclusivity and narrow mindedness.

I also hope that you do not give up the idea of committing yourself to the RIGHT church. I truly believe that the right church DOES exist for you. I too have studied many religions, and have struggled to commit myself to any of them for many of the same reasons that you mention.

Luckily, I found a compassionate church (progressive Lutheran) that fits my understanding of God and Jesus' teachings.

May God's peace continue to be with you on your journey

There is only one God, the God of the Bible. You cannot make up a god to conform to your wishes and whims. God has prescribed what is right and wrong and how to approach Him. Bottom line is, those who are of the called, the elect, are His sheep, His people. They will inherit eternal life. It is not through our works or who we are, He chooses according to His good pleasure. Either you will stand before Him covered by the sacrifice of Christ, enveloped in His righteousness and declared justified through His work on the cross, or you will come to God with your works, which Isaiah called, "bloody rags". Your good works are a useless sacrifice and not accepted.

My physician hit it on the head. On day's where he does not have a lot of appointment's (which is rare) he just talks with me to see how I am for a decent time.

I was born a Protestant, but I find myself more inclined to believe in the teachings of Sikhism, not exactly the same philosophies.

I sometimes wrangle over this and I mentioned it to my physician.

His response: "You find God any way you can."

I don't hold to any organized religion. The only way to heaven. I repeat, the only way is thru Jesus Christ. There is only one church, Jesus said He would come back for His church. He did not say, I'll be back for only the Baptist or Mormons, Catholics or whatever. Only God knows whats in your heart, only He will decide who goes to hell.

Man, I feel you.

But really, you've got to let go of the imagery of religion, like heaven and hell.
