contact united way in your area. or ask catholic charities to point you in the right direction. they won't preach religion to you, they are more concerned with helping people. good luck.

There are many needs throughout all sectors of non-profit organizations for various causes. Many organizations are typically funded by corporate donations. In the last year, I've seen a lot of cutbacks in corporate funding for philanthropic issues, so many of the non-profit organizations are in great need.

In order to connect with the organization that best fits your needs and interests, I would suggest that you work through your local volunteer center. These groups can match you with the organization(s) that best fit your talents, donations, and time commitment/requirements.

I like to recommend the Hands On Network, as they are an organization that has affiliates throughout the world.

The Hands On Network has many partner volunteer centers that provide one-time, short-term, and long-term volunteer opportunities within various communities.

The other resource I would recommend if you are in the USA is the Points of Light Foundation:

The Points Of Light Foundation provides information about the volunteer centers throughout the USA, and can connect you with your local center.

And the United Way is also a great resource if you have a local office within your community. You can check them out at:

Good luck!

I think helping children in Africa and other poor places get an education so that they can stand up on their own feet is the best way you can make a difference

Try visiting people in nursing homes. Most times they are so lonely...and rarely visited by their familes.
