Was looking on the trading post (Australian), found a "BREEDER" who breeds 17 toy cross breeds, 11 "mini" cross breeds, 5 medium cross breeds and 3 large cross breeds. Some of these include: GROODLE, LABRADOODLE, BICHPOO, CAVOODLE, JACKROODLE, MOODLE, RUGGLE, SCHNOODLE, SHITPOO, BRITTANY SPOODLE and many, many more.
The prices are STUPID ($450 for RUGGLE, $500 for BRITTANY SPOODLE, $650 for MINI GROODLE, $500 for MALTALIER).

The fact that people can breed such stupid "breeds" and make so much money out of it just frustrates me so much. Imagine how many of those dogs end up in shelters. The people that work there say Labradors (purebred) do not shed! They obviously don't screen their dogs but they do have health guarantees.
Before you post 'ok so whats the question'...
What do you think about this? How do you feel about this?

I know I feel angry just looking at those stupid designer dogs.
They obviously breed every heat as they have so many pups available.

I'm glad that people agree with me and nobody is saying that they would pay that much for one! I thought I had heard all the stupid names but obviously not. The man that breeds them is just a mini puppy mill - it sickens me. $700 for a cross breed; I could buy a purebred Golden Retriever from a reputable breeder for the same price, or even a bit less.

The fact that last time I went to the RSPCA [last month] and found a "SPANADOR", a "LABRADOODLE" and so many other designer breeds just made me even angrier while I was looking at his website.

It's amazing how stupid some people can be. Buying MUTTS at $500+ when they could pay $100 to adopt a mutt at a shelter.

Don't even get me started on pet shops! My local pet store always has Lhasa Apso x Maltese, "SPOODLE", "SPANADOR", Boxer x Labrador (Boxer x Labrador outraged me).

Not only does the fact that they sell those mutts, it's the price! Spanador = $750, Spoodle = $600, Boxer x Lab = $400, Lhasa x Maltese = 700. etc.

talon: The only thing I could imagine a mini groodle is Golden Retriever x Toy Poodle?

Whoa...I agree. I thought I had heard of all the lame-o designer mutts people were breeding, but your lists sicken me.
I hate, and I do mean HATE!- designer dog breeders and those who buy them.
I cannot grasp how someone could be so selfish as to create on purpose new mutts just for profit while dogs are dying in our shelters every damn day.
Seriously, doodles are not even cute!
Grr...it makes me mad to even think about it. Better stop typing before I burst!

ALL "DESIGNER BREEDS" ARE JUST MUTTS!!!!

The only difference is that people are dumb enough to buy them just based on what the "breeders" and pet stores say about them. Those mixes do not always have the "best of both worlds" often they have the worse. I am sorry to offend those that have a "designer breed", but if you want a mix GO TO A SHELTER!!!

I understand that accidents happen sometimes, but now a days you just slap a stupid name on the mutt and it is a "designer breed" and will cost no less than $300. I know some people that their Golden Retriever got bred by a Siberian Husky because the Husky chewed threw a chianlink dog kennel and bred her (she was a pointed show dog and was just out for 10 minutes). At least they were responsible with them and had their shots done and then just gave them away (for free) and didn't charge $1000 like some of the other mutts.

I think it's stupid..plus the breeds aren't even that cute.
I groom all diffrent types of dogs, but what most breeders don't recognize is the diffrent types of personalities that the two diffrent breeds have. That's an issue.
The whole rage a few months ago were Laberdoodles...They as tall as a poodle, and have curly hair. But have all the characteristics of a lab (including in most the famous black spot on the tongue) a known lab trademark.
I honestly don't see why people breed dogs of that stature, and they sell the pups for so much it isn't even funny. There are plenty of beautiful 'mutts' at a shelter that need more of a home than what those new puppy's do.

yes I agree with the insane amount of money paid for a mutt. and the people that buy these dogs think or act as if it's a purebred. oh it's out of an AKC sire and dam. hey dumbs-h-i-t, you can't register a cross breed!!! and some of these breeds have genetic issues that they are crossing into other breeds, heart/eye issues with poodles, hip issues with retrievers and labs. what the hell are these people thinking when they are doing this? oh wait they aren't thinking, money is their only drive!!

I raise Australian Cattledogs as pets and ranch dogs and I get people who call and dont' know much about the breed and complain about the price. 300 bux isn't alot for a purebred dog. then it's registration issues. wait you will pay more than 300 bux for a mutt and get the same thing no AKC registration.

somehow this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. so if someone doesn't know about the breed I won't sell them a puppy. not worth my pup ending up in the shelter, or somewhere worse.

PEOPLE of the world, quit paying these outragious prices for mutts and adopt something from a local shelter PLEASE

I agree with many of the previously made statements. Ever since the gentry started breeding and showing for looks as opposed to function in the Victorian era, a lot of breeds have been on a downhill slope. Conformation *should* be about the form that exemplifies soundness, longevity, and the best build for the individual's job. This should be related to biomechanics and for working breeds should have nothing to do with ear set, expression, bite, dome heads, or anything else that can be heavily influenced by bias, trends, and extremes. I think that with each breed, things go in cycles. Some breeds improve, others decline. Ultimately the public is in charge of the fate of each breed. The more famous a breed, the more prevalent the BYBs and the issues within the breed.

I agree and it annoys the crap out of me. If you want to breed mutts fine. I don't think any dogs should be overbred in the puppy mill situations like many "mass breeders," whether purebred or mutt. Here is the reason they make up these dumb a*s names:
THEY WANT MORE MONEY!!! That is the entire reason for it. If they advertise selling Labradoodle's - the new designer dog, they can charge you more. Unfortunately, dumb people fall for it. If it's called a "designer dog" instead of a mutt, they charge hundreds of dollars vs giving it away for free. So what the hell is a mini groodle?

Ugh, at the mall, I saw a Cockapoo for sale for 375. Ick.

I wonder what my dog would be called. She's a boxer/shepherd mix (and free, alright. Well a free dog that costs an arm and a leg after getting her spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and good food).

My husband suggests that she can be called a "Shoxer". But it's ridiculous anyone would spend that much for a mutt. Ick.

It gets worse. In the Kansas City, Kansas area there are “breeders” who sell Labradoodles for $1500. I’ve always thought that someone in marketing owned a pure breed, it became impregnated by a stray, and he/she just used their marketing skills to pawn off the mixed bread. It’s the modern day skills of Tom Sawyer. What’s even more pathetic is the people buying these poor animals. They don’t care that most of these mix breeds end up with all the health problems of both breeds. It's my opinion that neither the buyer or the seller cares about these animals.

anyone who breeds that many breeds is clearly a puppy mill

those prices are insane

as a rule anyone who breeds "designer" dogs is using low quality parents because if the parents were good quality they would be breeding purebreds - so people who buy these dogs are morons - who pay too much for an intentionally bred mutt...

so I feel not only are the breeders greedy people with no ethics... I also feel people who support them are idoits who dont really care about dogs as much as they think they do

it's just a "cycle" we are going thru caused by a couple of spoiled Beverly Hills brats who carried their little dogs around with them, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and trying to make money as quick as they can, they are not inventing new breeds!
I expect it will be over soon, as all fads are, and the world will have many more mutts
