"The eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the good and the evil."

God is just and will render to every man according to his deeds. His words are true and right.

Killing someone isn't necessarily a sin. King David was a mighty warrior. He killed Goliath. If killing someone is a sin then justice cannot be rendered.

Murder is sin. This has an idea more than just killing someone. It is killing someone apart from the law through an act of personal will and decision. In war soldiers are under law and government. Police are under the law and government. It is their duty to protect and to serve. God gave human government the responsibility to take life when it is appropriate and to not do this is a sin.

Self defence killing is not a sin. Murder is. This is the principal that makes it OK to kill in war time. Yes a sin is a sin no matter what the circumstances. An action is not a sin no matter what the circumstances though. I guess your real question is what makes a sin a sin? Intent + the action. The motivation is the determining factor...why you did it. Law is based on it - in latin it is called MENS REA which always made me laugh at law classes.

Sin is any thought, word or action that offends a holy and righteous God. What constitutes sin is spelled out very precisely throughout Scripture. God is not ambiguous when it comes to sin. It is just as much an offense to murder a child as it is to murder an adult. The recompense is the same, either you are of the elect and Christ paid for your sins, or you will pay for them.

killing and murdering are two different things....

if you are going by the Bible's definition of sin, everyone is sinful no matter what...there are some sins that are worse than others but each one means the same thing ultimately...death..
it absolutely does matter about the circumstances...if you read the Bible you realize that...

Sin is Sin.
The origin of the word is actually an archery term.
It means to miss the mark.
All have sinned and fall short of The Glory of God.

No. God does not expect us to just lay down and let someone kill us. If you "plan" to kill someone, that is murder. Sin. If you are defending yourself and it happens, that is not murder. Or like, if you have a car accident and someone dies and the accident is your fault, that is not murder because you did not plan it. See?
