78 yr female with life long thyroid problems. impression 2:bilateral hypoechoic areas visualized within the thyroid lobes, the most prominent on the right. these do not show increased vascularity and may represent necrotic adenoma. these 2 impressions from my wife's ultrasound last week. dr. said not to worry and left for vacation. wife has taken pills for years and kept control of her thyroid. layman needs explanation. do I need a second opinion. slight restriction in throat was reason for visit. thanks, john

John I'm sorry you are worried. I also have two. An adenoma is a medical term for wierd growth that is NOT cancer. Key word being Benign. the other part necrotic is tissue that is dying off. So she has some non-cancerous benign growth that is no longer growing probably dying off. I went to see my dr. for the exact same reason. The constriction in my throat was from severe heartburn that was burning my throat in that area. I take prilsec now,and my tight throat eventually went away I hope this helps you.. Rhea

Its nothing to get upset over but should like your wife's thyroid is dying off, shrinking. If she has a lump and adenoma and its restricting her breathing or swallowing. She should have it removed. You can get him to do that when he gets back from vacation.
