If the U.S. was fully ready and aware of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, I believe that the attack would have never gotten that close to the islands. The Aircraft carriers that showed up the next day would have been diverted to intercept the Japanese carriers in the pacific, the outcome would have been a difference like night & day. I also believe that most of the Japanese fleet would have been destroyed earlier in the war and most likely the need for the nuclear armament on Nagasaki and Hiroshima wouldn't have been needed.

You are assuming Pearl Harbor was as bad as it looked.
It was not.
Of all the ships "sunk" that day, only two were left on the bottom. The USS Arizona was considered too damaged to raise and the USS Utah was nothing but a target ship in the first place.
The rest were all raised and except for one, repaired and used later in the war.
None of the fuel storage facilities were hit. None of the repair facilities were hit. None of the aircraft carriers were in port so they also were undamaged.
Had the Japanese sent the third wave as planned and taken out the fuel and repair facilities, we would not have been able to either raise the ships or defend the Islands and the islands and the ships would have fallen to the Japanese.
It was the key event Roosevelt needed to get the USA to declare war. But we were already in it. Little known even today, is that the US NAVY and the GERMAN NAVY were already shooting at each other as early as SEPT 41.
Americans do not seem to do responds to clouds forming on the horizon, they must be hit by a lightening bolt before they wake up.

Not my war but I read; that it depends upon how ready they could have been,
That if the US was able to stop the Japanese Aircraft carriers and sink them the war would have been much shorter.
If the US was only better able to defend and mount an air defense well the Japanese would have still inflicted great damage. Their planes were expendable, replaceable the carriers were not.
But if the US scooted all ships out to sea say Dec 6th the Japanese may have not attacked.
Fun to deal with the "what ifs"
But realize we were fairly doomed in the Philippines and
the Britts in SE Asia. There would have been a hell of a sea battle going to the relief of MacArthur!
In other words the war would have gone on.

I watched a show on The History Channel about this. We knew about the attack on Pearl Harbor and if we hadn't moved ships like we did, even if we had been ready for them, we would have sustained even heavier losses. We would have lost several carriers and our ability to win the war would have been severely set back.

The Japanese planes would have been shot down before they got anywhere near Pearl Harbor. The US still would have declared war on Japan, and the rest would probably follow as it happened, except we might have a few more heroes alive today..

This was done on a computer simulator on the History Channel a year or two ago.. It was bad for us. The BB's all get out to sea, and then sunk but now too deep to recover them. Carriers move closer to home and would have been badly outnumbered and severly damaged or sunk. Japan would have paid a higher price, but we still would have taken on hell of a beating.

they could have been ready they new planes were coming but they though they were b-17. i think we wouldn't of lost as much ships and planes at all because the air force would have been in the air. in the real battle the anti-aircraft
ammo was locked up because they were near a residential area. i took them about 7min to start firing the anit-air. in the they would have been firing in 1sec. the japs would lose a ton of planes. And when the jap carriers started to go home. U.S. destroyers could crase em and blow em up which would cripple the japs and make them lose there carriers.

If it happened now-Well, we would have a large debate on how we are insenstive to the needs of the Japanese people and we need to understand their choice of a government. We would also have a long debate in why the Germans need to be left alone and we need to let that nation be soverign-they have never tried to harm us. If it happened today, that is what would happen.
