She is too skinny!

She needs to gain weight by eating healthy! She is tall for 87 pounds.

My 4'11" neighbor weighs 80 pounds. He is 11. His sister is 14 and weighs 115 at about 5'2". These kids don't look fat at all. They look like healthy and happy kids.

Tell your girlfriend to eat fruit. Hand her an apple when you see her in the morning. And an orange at lunch!

WOW...."00" is probably too big for her.

Good luck to her.

For that height and age group, she should weigh no less than 91 pounds. However the Body Mass Indexes are simply guidelines. I would say let a dietitian decide if she is truly underweight or not.

Sounds underweight to me. I am a student physical therapist... for that height her weight sounds too low. However, at age 14y there is still a possiblity that growth is happening, and her bulk hasn't kicked in.

I would highly recommend going to the doctor to make sure that her weight is healthy for her height and age. A general physical is always a good idea.

Her BMI ( Body Mass Index is low) that means she is on the side of being underweight. If she was ever to get sick she wouldnt have the ability to fight off infection. Younger girls are so concerned about being thin, its not about weight its about how healthy you are. At 5'5" I would think she could be more around the 100lb weight.

It is low-average for 14. She will continue to grow and stretch out lose baby fat etc. As well she should not diet. She is too young. Tell her to eat right, not worry and of course that you think she is gorgeous! She will gain weight as she grows. She has at least 4 more years of weight gain and growth til she balances out at about 20 to 24. You will reach your maximum height and start to balance out in terms of height/weight proportions at 18 or 19. Good luck to both of you.

I hate it when people make snap judgements on questions like this.

I too was thin. When I graduated high school I was 5'10" and 116lbs. I have a very slight bonestructure (thin bones). Yet, my nickname was horse because I ate so much. Your friend may be slender/thin but skinny, from the comments here, seems to imply sickly thin.
