Quite a number of cameras only have an optical zoom of 3x...which is more than adequate for most situations.
If your camera has a lot of megapixels (6 or more), then you can even zoom in on the photo and crop it via your photo editor software.

Hey, I'm not a professional photographer, but 3x is normal zooming, and believe me it's enough for you to take family pictures at events, or whenever you feel like utilizing your camera.

Most point and shoot cameras are 3-4x optical. You'll have to upgrade to a Canon S3IS, Sony H5, or dSLR to get a better optical zoom.

hi i am not a professional photographer either and my camera has 3x zoom i would like to upgrade to 5x or 12x WOW.
